IIRC he didn't like the idea of interviewing with the Bears if they didn't have a GM. He comes in today for an interview.

They just said on B&B that Pace was sitting in on his interview.

But nothing about him already being the guy

Mannelly said that Ballard is the type of guy who would tell them what he needed to have for the job. And if he didn't get it, he would walk.

I'll be very curious to see if this is "a new way of business" at Halas Hall.

So Ballard was offered the job? Is Pace the second choice? Is that good or bad?

Are we now going to bitch about Ballard not getting the job?

They said on B&B that they were set to hire Ballard and Pace blew them away in the interview and they changed direction.

Who's bitching?

I think it's a natural impulse to want to figure out how the hiring decision was made, especially given the disastrous history of the McCaskey-Phillips tandem.

Who cares what B&B say? They have no credibility whatsoever.

I was not saying you or anyone specifically was.

I just know how Bears fans are.

They did not want him before hand and now that he was not hired they were complain about it...

That's the same thing B&B said about Emery.

This conclusion can't be drawn until we know what happened with Ballard, who may have been the first choice for the job.

Supposedly not the case per Bernstein's "guy."

it would appear housing cleaning of the scouting dept. is sorely needed... but most fans seem to only care about the GM himself.... when the scouts are the ones doing the heavy lifting providing data to GM

Can the bears afford to clean house in the scouting department now given the draft is in 3.5 months?.... Where do you find new scouts? Are scouts on contracts and thus teams can block lateral hires? I'd ask Hub but he would dance around my question for 2 minutes because he doesnt know that type of detail

Bears interviewed Pace yesterday. Didn't let him leave town. Sorta seems like he was their guy.

I'm going to go ahead and set a low bar: I just hope this guy doesn't sound like a boob at press conferences. Angelo, of course, was legendary for his sounding like a boob in his press conferences. And Emery simply didn't improve upon that much; in fact, he somehow actually sounded like Angelo.

So please, don't sound like Angelo. Give me that much at least.

No, you have that backwards. The Bears were going to name Ballard the GM, but then Pace Picante GM informed them that he made his bones in New York City.

So once again the Bears hire a guy to do a job that he has never done before, and it looks like the same will happen with the head coach. What will it take for these assholes to realize that their way doesnt work? Nevertheless, I will drink the koolaid and give it a chance.

He's a dead ringer for W_Z. I wonder if someone will ask him about his thoughts on movies and MST3K.

Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy had never been a GM and Head Coach and that has worked out ok.

Pace graduated from Eastern Illinois in 1999 with a degree in marketing.

No JD or MBA! The era of new age GMs is already dead.
