I thought it was bad enough when they added Stone Temple Pilots to the playlist a few years back, but this cannot stand.

STP on the Drive? Are you shitting me? I know time keeps moving forward, but come on. Leave that to the Loop, maybe Q101.

Yes, there's been a strong push of the early 90's alternative bands on the drive in the past few years. STP, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and others have all popped up. The Santana cut was the most bizarre though. Maybe someone is taking over for Downes already and fucking things up right away.

Patty Martin was the PD from the beginning of the station through last June. I'd say losing her made a difference.

I don't mind STP. I just think those 90's alternative bands don't fit the "Classic Rock" format.

I'd have to agree. I'm waiting another 15 years when Classic Grunge/Alternative stations start popping up for
Gen X'ers who are starting to retire.

Gotcha

I remember at the end of 104.3's run as the Oldies station they started working in some Guns N Roses. Made a 16 year old rpb feel very old

A "Classic Alternative" format would be great. You get some of these cuts from 101.1, but they lean mostly too the 90's standards (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc..). An expansive playlist from that era would be great, not just the grunge shit that has been beaten into the ground.

I love the song just more in line of it was for q101 and not the drive. At least when I lived there.

I don't listen to much STP, but I did like the song Plush because it was on GTA San Andreas and it reminds me of Flight School portion of the game that took me literally two weeks to get through.

They won't play those 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, or 9th songs unless it's a deep cut weekend.

True, I chose 9 instead of 5 because of "Get the Led out"

Chuck Klosterman (I know...) called it the song of the 90s, which always kind of fascinated me. It is a pretty great song.

Core was much better than everything they ever wrote.

Their 4th album blew too.

I had to youtube it to even know what song you were talking about. never made it past the cheesy guitar hook at the beginning before.

For whatever it's worth, the early 2000s Loop played stuff off the first three Pearl Jam albums and I thought it fit in just fine. Same with Nirvana's hits and Plush/Interstate Love Song. Maybe "Black Hole Sun" was in there, but poor Soundgarden, always the afterthought, right?

This explains things:

http://www.robertfeder.com/2015/01/22/d ... ago-radio/
Quote:
Coming off a banner year in 2013, Hubbard Radio also saw sales plummet at its hot adult-contemporary WTMX FM 101.9 (down 17.4 percent), classic hits WDRV FM 97.1 (down 22.1 percent) and adult contemporary WILV FM 100.3 (down 15.6 percent).

Billing drops 22%, you need to shake up the format a little bit.

Core and Purple were both solid. First concert I ever went to at Summerfest in 1994. Had center seats in the pavilion. Decent playlist.

1. Vasoline
2. Silvergun Superman
3. Crackerman
4. Lounge Fly
5. Meatplow
6. Still Remains
7. Pretty Penny
8. Creep
9. Andy Warhol
(David Bowie cover)
10. Army Ants
11. Big Empty
12. Interstate Love Song
13. Plush
14. Unglued
15. Dead & Bloated
16. Sex Type Thing

kind of odd that radio billing has collapsed that fast. listenership hasn't dropped that fast. the economy is doing OK, relatively speaking.

Billing is dropping everywhere. Nobody wants to advertise on a dying media format.
