it does

The machinations in basketball have taken some of the appeal from the game for me...so many salary dumps and intentional losing adding up to nothing.

It is times like this that I really wish we had a larger post history on here because I remember a lot of comments about the music at US Cellular Field on here coming from Cubs fans.

What was the general idea of these posts? Cubs have better music?
Games at Wrigley are a better experience because they are not filled with advertising, pumped in music so you can't hear the person next to you, and instead you can just concentrate on the game.

I see.

Ive heard versions of that in the past.
I found an example by current horrible poster One Post, though he doesn't specifically mention US Cellular Field.

Uh oh, I don't think JORR is going to like how Euclid is going to treat him after this post...

Can you now do an edit that makes any bit of sense?

There have been some good runs and some bad runs. From '68-'70 was atrocious.

Bob Sakamoto came to see our game against Maine South in HS, and I remember how excited we were. Big shot from the Trib!

We blew a 3 TD lead in the 4Q. They ran right up the middle right in my gap on a critical 4th and 2 and I failed miserably. I wonder if Bob remembers.

NO WAY is Sale #5

using CSFMB's own JORR analytics there are 50 pitchers that were better than Sale last year.

Heck he barely edged out "Losing" pitcher John Danks 12 to 11.

Winning percentage.

And most prospects fail. Cub prospects fail more than most.

OK here are two players both had historic seasons...

1959 Roy Face 18-1 .947 93.1 IP 2.70 ERA
1968 Bob Gibson 23-7 .710 304.2 IP 1.12 ERA

If you go by Winning percentage you would have to take over Face and just about every other pitcher in MLB history.

My basic point JORR is that if you take any one stat WINS, Win percent, WAR , FIP, HRs , RBI or BABIP and anyone can find a flaw in that stat.

I know you and many of of your subdivision cohorts think Theo is a con man and fraud...but if you remember back to one of his pressers when he came to the Cubs and was about traditonal scouting vs sabre analytics Theo said you have to look at both through their own lens. Then take both and put them over each other and try to find the guys that had the most crossover.

You and I both go to a lot of games and we both see things maybe not like a scout but after years of watching in person (not on TV) you start to see things just like a scout. If you look at the sabre stats as a whole you will find a whole lot more crossover then you may want to admit.

Yes there are outliers to both the eye test (does Sandoval "look" like a star) and guys like Lawrie defies the analytics.

The fact is I like both and some numbers because of our number bias mean more ...a guy who wins 20 sounds way better to the ear/mind then the guy who wins 19. The 40 HR guy or 100 RBI guy to our minds eye seems far superior to the guy who hit 39 or drove in 99. In fact they are about the same but those numbers get the press clippings and stand out on the back of the baseball card.

You're not really paying attention to the stuff I write, are you? Elroy Face was a reliever. W/L record means next to nothing for relievers, though 18-1 is a hell of a season.

or
1968 Bob Gibson 23-7 .710 304.2 IP 1.12 ERA

Who you takin' JORR ?

If all we have is the 13-3 and the 23-7, we can tell a lot. Like the disparity in innings pitched, which is important.

You still don't see it ....

2014 Chris Sale 12-4 .750 174.0 IP 2.17 ERA

Moose has a higher win percent so you taking him over Sale?

That Haas season is very comparable to what Sale did last year.

Haas's team won 87 games in 1983
Sale's team won 73 games in 2014.

Bob Gibson's team won 97 games, and the World Series in 1968.

Outside of 1959, Roy Face had a career record of 86-94. He started a grand total of 27 MLB games. So no, you absolutely would not take him over "every other MLB pitcher in history."

Best season ever for a reliever: John Hiller 1973.
