I didn't hear "hey, buddy" but wasn't listening for it.

Kathy the news girl is really swinging from whomever Steve was nutz. How long til Mac cuts her and brings in one of his own girls.

The Loop, the Drive, XRT, and Q101 kind of make up a spectrum, though the Drive is closer to the Loop now than I ever remember it being.

Steve Downes had a top 10 morning show for years and is the voice of Master Chief (whoever that is) in Halo. His nuts are estimable.

I'm sure Kathy Voltmer is going nowhere; I think she goes back before day one with management.

Isn't the Loop bringing in Mancow? Maybe they'll be vacating the classic rock space a bit, at least during morning drive.

Take yourself seriously, much? I wasn't expecting them to come on and reinvent what Downes did or badmouth him, but I also wasn't expecting the same show with the exception being there are now 2 people doing it. Very disappointing.

The Drive isn't some 70 year institution. The WDRV classic rock format was unveiled in late 90s early 00s.

I've been listening to Chicago radio for over 35 years and I thought "The Drive" was what 94.7 was calling themselves these days. Took me 10 minutes to find the station.

Then I got half a crappy Aerosmith song which would have been enough to punch out right there but I stuck around and got Born to Run which is a song I like well-enough and hadn't heard in a while.

Mac did a 3 or 4 minute sports update a la Adam Harris and then Ballroom Blitz...and I'm out.

I guess I really didn't believe that Mac didn't want to do sports anymore but I guess he really doesn't. Too bad. I enjoyed his shows.

Yeah. I'm not shitting on Dan's work here. It's just that I don't rock out with my cock out on my drive in to work. It's difficult for me to make a case for listening. Alternatively, I generally dislike where the Score is at right now. The station could really use some Mac.

Honestly, I'd rather have him on the Score playing more music than on the Drive talking less sports

No one is going to put it better than that. Kudos. Perfectly sums it up.

There was a while where they tried to incorporate more modern rock. They'd played new stuff by old acts -- "Beautiful Day," "Jaded," "The Rising," et al -- but started doing a lot of Foo Fighters and other horrible "active rock" shit. Then at some point they took a hard right back to not only their usual classic rock but softened up the playlist quite a bit to horn in on the Drive and XRT: the Loop I grew up with wouldn't have touched Fleetwood Mac or Jackson Browne with a ten-foot pole, for instance, but now here they are. At the same time, the Drive used to be too mellow for AC/DC or Def Leppard, but now they're on there, too.

Fucking consultants ruin everything.

I can't listen to Ballroom Blitz anyway.

It reminds me too much of Tia Carrere in Wayne's World and I can't walk into the office in the morning all boned up.

Jeez, with this format, two and a half packs easy. They still pay people really good money to do this stuff? Yakov Smirnoff sure was right.

 Holy shit! Capping off the show with Point of No Return by Kansas.

I haven't heard that song in 20 years. I'm good for another 20 now.

It's Point of Know Return. I not you shit. I only learned that just now. I was poking around the DRIVE's website, to see if they have a podcast feed, and they have a "now playing" feed of song titles. I had to google "Point of Know Return" to confirm that's the actual title. Something to do with Jesus, or Einstein.

Do we even bother with a show thread for this tomorrow? I won't be listening.

My interest, or lack thereof, has nothing to do with either Mac. It's the format. It sucks. I hate rock radio in Chicago. It's the same goddamn songs on a perpetual loop. Earlier in this thread, I said "ugh" after hearing a Cars song. Maybe I wouldn't have that reaction if something other than the usual 5 Cars songs was played. It's brutal.

I hope the 2 Macs are just biding their time until they can share more of their gift of gab. Not fair to judge their show. I'm judging the station and its format. They suck.

I'll tune in from time to time, but when I hear The Doors or Rush or Boston, I'm PTFB.

I'm sure if they do change it, Mac will be the first one here to make a thread about it.

How do you remember to log in as S.I.D. and Rogue?

I never knew that either.

That's now one more piece of information taking up valuable brain space for the rest of my life.

"Point of Know Return" is a little dopey, but if you don't rawk out to "Carry On Wayward Son," you're soulless or a liar.

He just said "It's 9:08...I don't think I've ever said that before."

  He just said "How about that great new morning show." and the got BOTH of their names wrong.

That ought to be a ego booster to Mac and McMurray on the way home. The guy who's on after you has no earthly idea who the hell you are.

70/30 chance that Bernstein would say he's never heard it before.

To something you said earlier about The Loop, I remember them playing a LOT of Velvet Revolver in 2004.

I don't understand Pete McMurray's purpose as anything other than relapse insurance. I get putting the music first, but then you have to put Mac second.

I listened today so y'all wouldn't have to, CSFMB.

I won't be show-threading it tomorrow or tomorrow or tomorrow....

dunno if there's a podcast or maybe Tune-in auto-archives these broadcasts.

My recommendation: if you can find a podcast download or archive, it's decent music to listen to while home making dinner and having drinks with the
wife/gf/real doll/same-sex partner on a Thursday night...about once every 6 months. Or as a soundtrack to your White Sox tailgate.

I'm off to download one of Sini's Aphex Twin sets to cleanse my sonic palette; before I sprout a mullet and buy an '86 Camaro off of craigslist.

I guess they were hoping to keep their entire existing audience and then add a few of us sports guys to the ratings. I understand not wanting a huge turnover in the audience, but why not just get some smooth talking dude to spin tunes?

Now Mac is becoming Terry to me, a wasted talent.

I'm not really sure why anyone here thought this show would be any different than it is. Have any of you ever listened to an FM station in the past 25 years?

Or just get Pandora or Spotify and if this title exists for genre: "Crap You Never Want to Hear Anymore," make sure to select it.

I expect plenty of jokes about this show on the Score. Bernstein wins again!

But now he gets to gloat about how he's not "taking years off his life" working mornings to be a sidekick. Much like Coach K, the wins just keep on coming.
