I can see the Panthers trading down for a roster player now that they have a legitimate homegrown core of Ekblad (1st), Barkov (2nd), Bjugstad (19th), and Huberdeau (3rd), but Sharp for 11th straight up doesn't make any sense for them. I could see them sending #11 to Minnesota for Jason Pominville and #20, with rumors that Minnesota is clearing the decks for July 1st, and equally done with Pominville and Vanek but pretty obviously stuck with Vanek.

Shaw is a 3rd line winger. He's very effective at being a nuissance in front of the net. For much of this season he played center and nowhere to be found.

I like him and he has a lot of value at wing, but that role can be replaced easier than someone like Kruger. I'd like to keep him, but if a really good offer come in, it has to be considered. Locking up Saad and Kruger take priority.

I certainly wouldn't call him untouchable and he may have to be moved, but I don't believe he can be replaced so easily. His goonish qualities are something that Quenneville- and the Bowmans- clearly find important to have on a team. They've used guys far less skilled in regular rotation seemingly for nothing more than "toughness". Sure, Shaw gets stupid penalties at times, but if he goes I believe his replacement, though perhaps not strictly at his position(s) (I would expect them to get some modern day goon on defense. They may even if Shaw stays.), will be a thuggish guy who gets far more and worse penalties than Shaw.

I'm surprised that Buffalo, king of the tank, parted with two first-round picks in this draft. This would be Long Island's pick (for Vanek) going to Ottawa, with St. Louis's pick (for Miller) having gone to Winnipeg. I guess they're confident in their pipeline and are ready to get serious. I don't remember what Lehner makes but I'm guessing less than Niemi would make in free agency. They have money to spend, so I wonder where they'll allocate it.

Ristolainen and Zadarov are the young core.
