Someone made the point that there are some icky implications to how it's addressed to fathers giving their daughters to fratboys for sex (rather than, say, just writing "hey girls come fuck us" or something), but then fathers "giving their daughter away" at weddings always struck me as icky, too. Imo, it's only mildly worse than the hundreds of sorority pledges walking around en masse in loud pink t-shirts that effectively screamed "f-me" that I saw when I was down at Mizzou last week.
