Would somebody be so kind as to fill in this square as to what "BCBS" means; all I know it as is Blue Cross Blue Shield. I've been hoping somebody would post it long-form in this thread so I could understand clandestinely, but alas, no.

He said that there are five barrel aged beers on the shelves at Binny's that are better than BCBS, yet he was unable to name names.

It goes both ways though. For however many people have axes to grind, there's an equal amount who will either praise stuff unconditionally to justify the time and effort they spent attempting to obtain said beers and/or will look to increase or maintain the trade value of what they've acquired.

No, not with the variants. The adjuncts usually mean they're best consumed within 3 years before the ingredients start falling off. Prop 13 for instance has barely any coconut presence now, and a Coffee from this year will blow out one from last year. This doesn't even get into the separate issue of oxidation, which usually cautions against aging any of these beers for too long either. The original Vanilla isn't really close to what it was in 2010, but it's still far superior to the Vanilla Rye from last year, which isn't what one would normally expect. Same goes for Bramble vs Cherry Rye and Backyard.

I already said that Regal and Prop sounded pretty gross this year, and a lot of the early reviews I've seen have been negative. Coffee's great but has become too much of a pain to acquire IMO, especially with the format change making it limit 1 at most places. The barleywine is always fine, but I think Straight Jacket is better and much less of a hassle.

Two of my buddies tried all of them at FOBAB, and they said that they were all fantastic, especially the Prop. And these guys are as snobby as beer snobs get. They love to say that a beer isn't all that. They rate beers lower than I do at untappd.com

I get not wanting to wait in line, and this whole Black Friday thing is getting out of control, but there was no hassle at all for me. I was on a list, he called me on Wednesday, I strolled in on Friday at 11:15, and left with five bottles, including a coffee.

I have yet to find a better beer than any of the BCBS releases. These are top notch beers, that live up to the hype.

You're saying he couldn't...name names?

Sorry, I don't drink Budweiser products. Not interested in being a beer sheeple.

True dat. But, I don't do that. I like what I like, and I buy what I like. I don't care what others think about my purchases, and I am not a trader, so market value isn't important to me. The person that you are talking about was a guy in line next to me last year. I will see if I can dig up my post about it. This guy was as obnoxious a beer snob, as I will probably ever meet.

You're right, they do lose a little of the coconut, or coffee, but it isn't drastic. A coffee from this year, doesn't blow out a coffee from last year, IMO. We have done the taste tests from year to year.

I have never had an issue aging any of these beers. I still have a 12 oz BCBS from 2008, and a 12 oz and 22 oz of BCBS from 2009. Oxidation isn't an issue if the bottles are stored properly.

I guess it's all just a matter of taste. There is no right or wrong answer here.

Got 4 regulars tonight at DeCarlo's in Mundelein...I drank the first one while making apple pie moonshine for a party Saturday...I liked this year's better than last year's.

FWIW...I think the manager at DeCarlo's said he had a 4 pack of last year's still sitting in back...

I have at least a case of BCBS from 2012-2014, mostly the regular, but a few coffees and barleywines.

2013 is my favorite.

2014 was my first year trying it.

I have long loved stouts, but I never really thought about the BCBS...

If you actually read the thread, you would know that several people got some without waiting in line.

Only if you expect to get some at Binny's.

DiCarlo's in Mundelein still had some last night.

Check any smaller liquor stores around you (don't go to Da Jewels). Just ask...if they have it, they will sell it.

DiCarlo's still had some 2014 as of last night, too.

I'm not well situated. Oak park doesn't have any liquor stores. there are a couple blue collar joints in forest park. there are some rough looking places in austin. Binny's is about it.

Credit where it's due, I thought the bottle of Regal I had was the best fruited variant since Bramble.

Just grabbed a bottle of regal so glad to hear this.

Coffee Stout seems to be the tough one to find this year - everyone on the beer exchanges is looking for it and willing to overpay for it. I just found a bottle last week that I overpaid for.

The old man has turned into a Bourbon County hoarder. He bought them at retail price, so he didn't overspend or anything like that.

I did score a Proprietor's bottle for xmas, so I'm hoping that one is good.
