I've never negotiated a trade in a pro sports league, but I would imagine the threat of waking away makes it much easier to get good value. So much for that!

It's either trade him or watch him walk for nothing. If they've been trying to trade him for 18 months, I'd say they were lucky to get something for him.

The Bears' dislike of Bennet was an open secret, which of course makes it difficult to extract value in any deal. To complain about low returns is to ignore just how well known it was around the league that the Bears and Bennet were heading toward a divorce.

I don't think you are understanding what he is doing. He is trying to take a team, which had bad character players and no talent, and add talent. This team is not a SB bound team this year, or last or next, so there is no reason to hang onto a guy who wants more money 2yrs into his 4yr deal. He added 2 nice ILBs and a nice RT. This draft is going to define his GM status is Chicago. Also, to transition from a 4-3 to a 3-4 takes like 2-3yrs.

apparently this trade allowed them to move up 77 picks to pick #127... i figured it was a late 4th round pick but #127 has to be near the start of the 4th.
