In a larger sense, we, as a society, have become dedicated to this pretense that men and women are the same. Women seem to be fine with that proposition so long as it is beneficial to them. But when it starts to go the other way, for example when a woman covering sports gets the same kind of feedback as Bayless or Stephen A., suddenly special treatment is required.

If I were part of an online community dominated by women I wouldn't expect them to moderate their behavior to accommodate me. Obviously, this board is an example of a "manosphere". And men interact with each other in a way that is not typical for women. You might call it busting balls. Generally speaking, I've found women don't care for this. To her credit, Spaulding is a rare example of a girl who has no problem treating and being treated "like a dude". At least within the confines of this forum. Still, that hasn't stopped certain men from feeling the need to leap to her defense. To me that impulse/reflex is far more patriarchal than any insult that prompted it.

The point is DiCaro is acting as if these type of nasty childish comments are reserved for women on social media and that simply is not true.

I don't think so. If you falsely accuse someone of rape loudly and publicly, don't apologize or admit you are wrong, and then viciously attack anyone who points out the facts of the case(sometimes going as far as threatening to have them fired), you don't get to consider yourself a victim when people call you terrible words. She is a terrible human being. I don't really care if she "deserves" the comments or was "asking for it". It's just a fact of life that if you carry yourself that way people are going to think you are nasty, terrible person and treat you as such.
