I mean come on. Roeper writes editorials too and columns and political stuff right?

If it is in fact one of the best movies he has ever seen, then what does it matter? Do you honestly go see movies based upon how many stars it gets?

I do take the general critical consensus in consideration when deciding whether or not to lay down my silver for a movie, yeah.
Don't you read movie reviews?

no...
I go see it to find out what happens, not read about it beforehand and have someone elses opinion make me predisposed in anyway.

it ruins the experience more than anything else. i prefer to determine if something is campy on my own.

that is a very good point darkside. but i think its different because roper only reviews the movie once. teddy greenstien isnt going to be reviewing the ONE show he did for the next 3 years.

And that is also an excellent buckeye. He's going to be reviewing not just the show he did, but the overall show over the course of the time he's the media critic. Everytime he goes to maybe slam Mac over the latest "bitch" flap, he might take it eays thinking, "Well, maybe I'll get another chance to host if I play this just right."

...just like Silvy and Waddle might think the same thing if they want to bash Charles Tillman. They will think, "Well, maybe Peanut will stop coming on our show and helping ratings if I play this wrong".

Ok man. Well, millions of other people do read movie reviews and it would be shitty to read a wonderful review of a movie and say "wow I'd like to see that" and then find out that the damned movie critic had a hand in the movie.

In all seriousness, DS, do you feel that is what we have on our hands with Teddy's four hours on the show on Tuesday?

Silvy and Waddle are not "critics" of the Bears. They just talk about them. They job is to try to land interviews with sports figures. This argument is irrelevant.

That's a slippery slope. When Mariotti was on WMVP, would you say he was a "critic" of the Bulls and Sox or was he just trying to land interviews?

In all seriousness NSJ, this conversation is fucking pointless. I've stated my position. I'm done defending it. Take it or leave it.

So....basically a movie critic has to agree with you to be right? Good or bad reviews aside, you may love Roeper's movie while mrs darkside may hate it. Gigi got awful reviews, but I'm sure there were people that liked it.

Braveheart got amazing reviews, yet there's people that don't like it.

who cares if the movie kicks ass? and if it sucks, then maybe you have a point. but like most new music, most new movies suck.....

Frank, you must be baiting me because the only other explaination is that you've damaged your brain huffing rubber cement.
No, the critic does not have to agree with me.
Reread what I said...Seeing a movie get a good review, then paying to see said movie, only to find out that the movie's review was biased because the damned critic was in the movie would suck. This has nothing to do with agreeing with me at all.

I think you are 100% wrong about that. There job is to analyze the team. This isn't WGN radio giving the update every hour on the local sports teams. They aren't reading scores.

The talk the day after a Bears game breaks down the game, the performances, and what it means. Are you telling me that they weren't critical of Rex Grossman? Are you telling me that they weren't critical of Adam Archuleta? Are you telling me they weren't praising Urlacher at points in the Super Bowl season and then critical of him for last season?

I don't know what sports radio you are listening to, but they either are critical or heap praise in the direction of a player between just about every commercial break.

If you're going to see a movie solely based on a critics review, reagardless of who's review it was and what his relationship, if any, is with the movie, isn't the best way to go about deciding what movie to see.

Boilermaker, they're talk show hosts. they are not Chicago Sports Critics. "Talk show" and "critic" are two different job titles with very different journalistic standards.
Didn't anyone take journalism in college?

Put down the glue Frank.
I said there may be a point where you read a review and say "Snaps! I've got to see that movie". I did not say at any time that my entire criteria was the review of the movie. Dude you are losing your momentum here.

hmph, ok. I have never known anyone to pick up a newspaper or read a review online and then run out and see the movie based only on what they've read.

Then get out of your bathroom once in a while and meet some people.
If this never happened...why would there be an industry of movie critics.

So now you're implying that nobody would see movies if there were no movie critics?

and I'm losing momentum?
