He was interviewing Mike Wilbon and said that Bill Belicheck never let his assistants interview for jobs until after the season. That sounded wrong too me.

Later Hub came on to correct Pappy saying that it was an NFL rule that no coach can interview until after the season was over. The league has since changed that rule.

Everyone says they wish Pappy would talk sports more. Its been my opinion that he is lousy at this too. Nobody gives out more wrong info then he did.

And some of his opinions are idiotic. Like Aikman being better then Harbaugh and Orton being better then Grossman.

Aikman was better than Jim Harbaugh.

Ok, well that's just idiotic....the Orton better than Grossman is ridiculous too...

What was his theory today ? That the Bears defense didn't play well (or let down) because they had more room for error with Grossman/more offense ?

He obviously is taking minority few points, and just trying to create attention for his show with some of those comments.

I think you mean minority VIEW points...and yes, that's Mike. He has a good sense of what the public thinks, and then he often goes the other way. It's his #1 strategy in handicapping/sports gambling and it also seems to often be his stock in trade in formulating many of his opinions on the show. He figures out who Joe Six Pack likes or dislikes and then makes a case for thinking the opposite way. When people despised McNown, he loved the guy. Remember when Urlacher was drafted? Mike railed about it and said the Bears should have drafted Janikowski instead. I asked him at that time..."Draft a kicker with your first pick????" It generated a lot of attention on the show, though. Remember, Mike also was about the only host in town who regularly defended Dick Jauron (well the only one besides Hub who defended Jauron until the Bears canned Hub, then he trashed Jauron). In gambling, such a strategy of "going the other way" has some merit. In critical thinking and formulating opinions on issues that matter, such an approach is quite humorous.

He's also been on the Heath Miller (TE for Pittsburgh) bandwagon since the draft...Despite the fact that he wasn't a top 5 pick, North wanted the Bears to take him at 4. We can all argue about the Benson pick, but taking Miller at 4 is not a good move when you can get him later on.

Drafting Heath Miller with the #4 pick is the last type of move a GM makes. Trading down in the draft and then picking him wouldn't have been a terrible move.

Weird contrarian opinions on draft choices are a North standard in football and basketball. It's always an obvious try at controversy. Then a while later he goes through his "I was wrong, what can I say, I was wrong." period.

Yes..hoops too. Remember when the Bulls drafted Marcus Fizer and Mike told Tim Floyd the next day he was disapointed because the Bulls should have drafted Mike Miller. Who can forget Floyd's incredulous reply....often on the Score after that...."MIKE MILLER????" Now we might argue that's one North got right. Fizer is out of the league, while Miller is averaging 13 ppg and is 4th in the league in triple doubles (behind Lebron, Jason Kidd and Dwayne Wade). Not a bad career so far.

That was one year after the Bulls had drafted Elton Brand. Fizer was such a great college player, but I know it was questioned at the time, why draft another PF ? Well, the Bulls answer was to move Fizer to SF, instead of taking the best small forward available.

On that I agree with North, and Miller seems to be getting better and better.

North wants all Chicago teams to draft the best white guy. I remember him bashing the Bulls for not taking Luke Jackson instead of Luel Deng.

Deng looks like he's going to a good player!
Jackson, though, was a popular name in that draft, and I know the Bulls liked him - I know some think North is a racist, but I'd hate to think that gets in the way of sports debate.

The one time I caught North talking sports this week, he was telling David Schuster that the Bulls should do what they can to get that "Oden kid from Indiana" in this year's draft.

Apparently, Mike was unaware that the NBA has changed its draft rules so players are no longer eligible for pro entry right out of high school. Huebner and Schuster seemed embarrassed at having to inform Mike of this fact.

Good "blue collar" work ethic on the show prep, Mike!
