I'm officially temporarily switching. I can't fucking stand Mike and Mike any longer.
I've stuck with the show for personal reasons, but I'm trying the switch. Here are my thoughts:
1. M & M ars SO full of themselves. It comes through in every segement. I don't want to hear about their self-absorbed bets or sheets of intergrity. I don't want to hear about "Duel". And I could care less to hear about how Golic's kids are doing or when they had sex with their wives.
2. M&M is the same repetitive crap. If you watch NFL Live, Baseball Tonight, or even SportsCenter, you'll hear their guests saying the exact same shit they said the night before.
3. Whenever I'm bored as shit hearing Jay Bilas spew his shit, I can turn over to MNMS and hear something about the local teams.
4. North's show has a more "real" feel than Mike & Mike. Everything out of Mike and Mike is scipted for Hollywood. I could care less that Stink is on the Guiding Light.
5. Most think North is an idiot, but that's been his schtick since Day 1. The hotdog stand salesman turned radio talk show host. What else could you expect?
I listen to sports talk radio from 5am until 8am. I just can't take Mike and Mike anymore, so I'm going to go cold turkey with Mike North for a week or so and see how it goes.
Thoughts?
I don’t know who it was or on which board, but someone a while back suggested that if you don’t like it, don’t listen. And I’ve tried it as best as I can but while waiting for the car to warm up (particularly on sub-freezing mornings) I need to listen to something other than whether I have a sticking valve lifter. M&M doesn’t appeal to me because in part I knew Greenie back when, and I predict that his next gig will be as a prime time game show host. Which is why in the meanwhile he’s converted Golic to sound as fey as possible while the two go on their self-absorbed journeys of self-indulgence.
Which leaves me with North. I don’t think Mike Murphy has ever pretended to be more than a one-trick pony, and North has plagiarized Murphy with the great form of flattery ever. “What-if” bell excepted. North’s one-trick act is that of an idiot, and he doesn’t fail to remind any non-mouth breather with an IQ above room temperature of this at least once every five minutes.
I have a short commute to the train (under 10 minutes) and the game I play with the radio is “who long before I call North an idiot and turn off the radio?” I can’t recall making it to the train once last month before I switched off the radio. Then again there were evenings where I tried to make the conscious effort not to leave the station on 670 but with ESPN going to tape replay when I get home its hard to make the effort to switch to a station that I’m not listening to just to avoid what I’ll hear in the morning.
Now that its baseball season again the radio will be on 670.
There is really the potential to be good with a captive audience that just wants to hear something that doesn’t make you feel more stupid with each passing minute. Of late, these boards pass for better entertainment.
