DONE. I will not ever say slideball on a b'cast again.

Benetti would be great...but I'm not making anybody do something they aren't comfortable doing.

My only question is what strings you use on your bass. This is critical information. Also have you ever played your bass behind your head like Frank does?

Neato...Len...who was more fun to work with, Brenley or Deshaies?

Admittedly, as a Sox fan, I enjoyed listening to your work with Brenley more.

Oh, and any thoughts about the Smashing Pumpkins reunion tour?

1) Our broadcast group generally -- JD, Coom, Zach, Marc Brady (producer) et al. Depending on who is around and interested.

2) Yes, I eat before the games in the press dining room.

Who is your go to dinner companion(s) on the road?

You typically do dinner before the broadcast, or keep everything clear and eat after the broadcast?

I honestly thought it was pitch-perfect. Better than I could have imagined. He nailed the tone of it and it was simple and perfect I thought.

1) Never heard of them
2) Love Hawk, he's been a long-time friend and I've listened to him since the 80s. For me personally, Ernie Harwell will always be #1. Vin is the best b'caster who ever lived in any sport. Ernie was just the guy I listened to the most.

They're all fun and easy...typically the one I like the most is the one I've just done (and don't have to do for another week...kidding). Every show is very good to me and I've become friends with everyone there. I love doing radio.

Better Cubs 1st/3rd base combo:

DLee/ARamierez

or

Rizzo/Bryant

D Lee is my favorite player (in terms of guys I've covered). Kris Bryant is inching into the conversation. Yes, that '05 season was incredible.

You started calling Cubs games in 2005 (I can’t believe it’s been nearly 15 seasons). Opening day at Bank One Ballpark was a doozy. Same cannot be said for Illini basketball later that evening!

Anyway, everybody was contributing that afternoon, including Derrek Lee — who never really cooled off that year. Had to look this up: He was batting a ridiculous .378 at the All-Star break and finally finished at .335 Is this your favorite single season performance from a Cubs player to cover/follow from the booth? Someone else top that or come close?

Cheers.

Len, what is your process / secret to keeping the voice strong? Especially if there is a late night extra innings game followed by an early start the next day. You've had a few of those and your voice sounds great during the broadcast.

Yeah, I can see how people have their favorites. BB and JD are so similar. JD is basically the left-handing pitching version of Brenly. Love them both and I think they're maybe the 2 best in the business. God I've been lucky.

Incomplete simply because the latter combo's tenure is current. But man that's a fun question. Can I say both? LOL.

There are 2 ways to go about it -- one is to be incredibly meticulous about your voice and keep it top of mind always. The other is to not think about it. I choose the latter for this reason -- no matter how meticulous you are, you get sick. It's life. And I think some announcers stress themselves out worrying too much and I believe that stress makes it worse. So I tend to do nothing special or particular other than just live and breathe and eat and drink when I want to and then show up and talk.

I wonder if Zach eats what Crane Kenney tells him to or just finds out what Kenney ate earlier and orders the same thing

Len, on a scale of 1-10 how shocked are you at Heyward's resurgence?

Deep down, part of you had to think (maybe still thinks) the 2016-17 version was just what the Cubs were ending up with.

Also, be real, how worried are you about Darvish's mental makeup?
