Last 3 combo MVP/Cy Young winners were all on playoff teams, Kershaw 2014, Verlander 2011 and Eckersley in '92. Nats don't crap the bed and completely miss the senior circuit playoffs, Scherzer might've been a combo MVP/Cy Young contender. Don't see a .500 pitcher on a basement-dweller taking MVP and Cy.

Brewers chase down the Cubs for the division and Yelich takes MVP. He might already have it locked up. Yelich last night went 2 for 6 with 6 of those meaningless-to-sabermetricians RBI's.

How the heck did the Brewers draw the lowly Tigers for the deciding series of the season? While the Cubs contend with a still in it Cardinals team. Maybe the Tigers triple-A squad will be motivated to play spoilers and take a game or two off the Brewers.

You really are going to argue that DeGrom has been more valuable to his team than Yelich or Baez have been to theirs?

Professor Flakey was also mentioning Freddie Freeman in the discussion.

I see Cub fans acting like Baez should be a frontrunner on this meanwhile, Yelich is better than him in most offensive categories, plays well in the field as well and is carrying a much bigger weight on his team for teams separated by .5 of a game.

I was with you on the first part.

They are not equal defensively (Baez is way more valuable) and Baez is carrying a ton of weight for a Cub team full of guys having down years. Yelich has Aguilar, Cain, Shaw, and Braun all having good years.

Yelich is a hard guy to dislike though...

https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us ... s-playoffs

I'd give the defensive argument more weight if Baez primarily played a premiere defensive position. I know fans are "all like OMG, he does things no other player can do...and his tags" and while I'd debate the truth of that point, if taken as 100% truth, it just is not that impactful at 2B.

Furthermore, if he were an everyday SS, I think his offensive numbers would suffer. That position puts a lot more stress on the body and I think Russell's contributions from there are understated.

Id love to see him win the Cy Young with a 10-9 record

this last win was huge to get him into double digit wins and get him above .500

The Dodgers had Ferris Buehler set to start today but are now starting Rich Hill to set up a better rotation for the playoffs. Interesting

Two 1 game playoffs this year in baseball.

Two Game 163's.

Should be a bigger deal in the media but it's not because no New York teams are involved.

You live in a world were Enron and Napster are still viable. You are the last person who can get on anybody for posting old news.

Losing Scioscia, Beltre, and Mauer in one fell swoop. Time flies.

Great catch by David Dahl. I love that dude. I was Hoping he’d be a change of scenery guy but the Rockies finally got their heads out of their ass and started playing him everyday. Dude could be a monster.

A healthy Bryant, Machado, Baez, and Rizzo will make one hell of a Cubs infield in 2019.

Man that's a huge win by the Dodgers. Now they get a few days off and host the Braves while the Rockies have to jump on a plane to play an elimination game at the Cubs. Ferris is a Dude.
