Kirk Cousins is already at $72 million and will be at $130 million by year 9 with another big contract likely coming after that. That is with him making very little his first few years because he wasn't a first round pick. Jeff Samardzija will be making $127 million in 14 years.

A lot of MLB picks have very limited MLB careers too. A first round NFL QB is almost certainly going to get multiple contracts. It's a huge number if they are decent. Even RGIII has outearned Kris Bryant so far.

Kris Bryant is going to make at a minimum $300 million more than RGIII in their careers. I’m not sure if this is a bit or meant to be a serious post.
^this, just look at the contracts that will be given out in the next week or two. They will dwarf any given out in NFL history.

Kris Bryant is on a potential HOF trajectory though. That's the point. Everyone acts like baseball players are guaranteed to make a lot more money. RG3 is currently out earning Bryant even as RG3 is struggling to stay in the league.

I guess we can use Mark Appel instead. RG3 will have about 4x the career earnings of him.

That isn't likely. 26 players make $21 million or more in MLB according to the article I quickly googled. Maybe he will be one of them. A lot of first round picks have pretty unremarkable careers.

Murray is projected to be a first round pick in the NFL so if you want a better comp then we can pick a first round pick.

The #1 pick in the 2017 MLB draft got a $6.75 million signing bonus.
The #1 pick in the 2017 NFL draft got a $20 million signing bonus and will make $30 million in his first 4 years.

The #15 pick in the 2017 MLB draft got $3.6 million.
The #15 pick in the 2017 NFL draft got a $7.3 million signing bonus and will make $12.6 million in his first 4 years.

After 4 years the numbers will be far ahead for the NFL player, with the arbitration years keeping the NFL player pretty far ahead for a while longer assuming they are still playing.

Everyone asks like every draft pick in MLB makes big money. For a lot of them the first deal is the only big money they ever get.

I do believe that Cousins got most of his money fully guaranteed.

The point is, and it's THE point, Murray would be in the NFL from day 1. If he chose baseball, he would be in MiLB, with NO guarantees of making it to MLB.

They won't be comparable contracts unless Murray is an all star caliber player in baseball.

Alex Smith will make $150 million to $220 million in his career depending on his injury.

If Murray is a first round pick he gets far more than the $5 million from baseball with a lucrative contract in year 5 if he is even decent. Mark Appel would take that deal.

1st round contracts are usually 4 years guaranteed with offsets if they get cut.
