i don't understand the knee jerk defense of babe ruth. it's not like anyone was alive to for him to be their favorite player and be offended he's being called out. there's nothing controversial about a dude saying a drunk slow sex addict couldn't hack it in today's MLB.

Many hitters these days do an early leg kick to be able to catch up to a fast pitch. Bryant is one of the few who waits and has almost no kick, so it can be done (probably not with a 42 oz. bat).

As for pitching, I've read that when Nolan Ryan was officially clocked at 101.89, that speed was measured when it crossed the plate, whereas today's pitchers are timed from the release, which gives them an 8-10 mph advantage. I'm not sure if that's been proven or discussed much.

Yeah but Ichiro has those Oriental quick twitch muscles that enabled him to be successful despite having a similar swing . A fat, shambling , stumbling , whore-monger drunk like Ruth wouldn’t stand a chance against these guys .
