Best Bears' qb since the Punky one. Hopefully he's more durable. He's definitely good enough to lead a SB team.

Erik Kramer was pretty good, but that was a short window. I expect Mitch to hold up better.

Kramer was also 29 or 30 by the time he got to the Bears.

I am encouraged by his rate of improvement. He was a lot better at the end of the season than he was at the beginning. That says a lot of good things about him--notably that he is a hard worker who can translate what the coaches are teaching him in the film room and at practices into improved physical performance. This ability to rapidly or immediately grasp and implement instruction is both crucial for someone at his career stage and somewhat rare. From a mental perspective, then, I think he will be a much more polished and dangerous player next year. Physically, he still has significant mechanical issues to overcome with his throwing motion. Hopefully he can successfully address that area in the off season. Some guys can take care of that in a few months, some guys can't. But he's in a great position to succeed given his natural athleticism, coachability, and (evidently) excellent work ethic.

Well said.

I was really encouraged by the fact that his QB rating went up in the 2nd half and was way up in the 4th quarter this past game. He does not seem bothered by big moments.

The more I think about it the more I am happy with him as a second year player. He has to improve but it's hard to imagine him worse than a league average quarterback now. He clearly can make all the throws you need to as a quarterback though he was inconsistent with those. The last two drives, in a win, would have been considered the highlight of his career to this point.

13-20 for just a shade under 200 yards and a td in the second half. Place those numbers blindly and everyone would be talking about what a winner that QB is.

They have their quarterback for a long time. He clearly does not get rattled and can make plays. He got them in position to win that game after they lost the lead. It was just bad luck that they lost.

This is very well stated.
I'll also add....he appears to be coachable...and we appear to have good coaching in place to do it.

Future is bright.

I needed to see him perform well in the 4th quarter with the Bears trailing. I'm really encouraged by his play. I believed that he would be a better player at the end of the season but he's ahead of where I thought he would be. Hopefully he works his ass off in the offseason and becomes a really good/great player next season.

Your opening sentence is what cracks me up about a lot of other fans/pundits. So many people said this exact thing, the Mitch winds up in that very situation, doesn’t panic, and helps get them downfield and in position to win the game.. so they fall back on the ‘numbers’. ‘Mitch only scored this many TD’s’.. it tells me that no matter what he does people who have their minds made up about him have no issue moving the goal posts around to make their point with him.

Disagree....I very much had my reservations. His stock rose dramatically with me after that 4th quarter performance.

It's unlikely that he will ever be in the class of Mahomes and that alone will make some fans hate him. Others just don't want to be wrong about him sucking so they'll move the goalpost.

I wanted to make sure that the moment wouldn't be too big for him like a Kirk Cousins. I know he had the touchdown drives in the 4th against the Dolphins and Packers at home. There is a different kind of pressure being tied than there is trailing though. The score was tied in both games. Seeing the look in his eyes in Green Bay and his performance made me unsure if he could handle it. He stepped up against the Eagles in the 4th and had the look in his eyes that said the moment wasn't too big. That was encouraging.

MANY people are saying that. In Week 1 he looked like a deer in headlights. He looked like a killer against the Eagles.

Best QB the Bears have had in a long time; good enough to win a super Bowl? Maybe.

The Bears did not lose because of Parkey; they lost because the Eagles shut down Mack and Cohen.

They lost because of Parkey. Your strengths get you into the playoffs and your weaknesses get you out.

I remember Watson was the qb of choice last year as the next great quarterback. Then he got hurt and is no longer talked about in that way. Not wishing anyone bad luck but Mahomes just might end up with the same happening to him. The NFL is a marathon and not a sprint. (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is just a baby as are Watson and Mahomes. Declaring Mahomes the next coming of Joe Montana is ridiculous.

Parkey sucks but you really shouldn't expect to win when ya score 15 points. The offense sucked against a weak D

Eagles have a weak secondary, not a weak D. Their front 7 is probably the best in the NFL.

I would agree that the Eagles did a good job to scheme Mac and Cohen out of the game

They could get thrashed by NO(I think they will) and it doesn’t take away from what I posted.

I agree with your thoughts on this topic, but don't you think Pace is obligated to pay him? If he doesn't pay him, he's pretty much admitting that me made a mistake in trading up for him.

I’d like to see the Bears buck the trend of overpaying a mediocre QB after his first contract like Dallas is about to do with Dak and which every team does. Continually reinvest in the position and keep building around it. I have little doubt Nagy will get Mitch paid one way or the other.

I agree with your thoughts on this topic, but don't you think Pace is obligated to pay him? If he doesn't pay him, he's pretty much admitting that me made a mistake in trading up for him.

Maybe.

I’m always in favor of bold, innovative moves even if they don’t work out and I think it would be awesome if Pace came out and said he loves Mitch, wanted to get an extension done, but looked at the landscape of the NFL and knew it wasn’t a good idea to give a big contract out to even a good QB, and that’s why they went a different way.

Pace has a few years to figure out if (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is worth a big contract. He could still use the tag if he needs more time.
