That's not really my recollection of things. This is not a criticism of bigfan because I know what a pain in the ass it is to get whiny PMs or to log in to a bunch of red exclamation points. But I remember the policing of the board to be pretty arbitrary and inconsistent. In fact- and Nas can correct me if I'm wrong- Nas's issue with the way bigfan moderated was not that there were racist posts on the board but that some stuff was left and some was deleted. That gives the impression at least that the stuff that is left is somehow condoned or supported.

We didn't want to deal with that. We're not here 24/7 examining every single post. As Nas points out, this isn't a moneymaker. It's a labor of love. So we have stayed pretty hands off for the most part, with exceptions for things that MOST would consider truly egregious. I mean, we had a guy here who parroted Richard Spencer's talking points. That isn't wanted or needed. He can practice that "free speech" on Discord.

It's not even really about the moderators. A lot of stuff never even got to the Bigfan level because when someone posted something racist or bigoted the regular posters pounced and said "don't post that shit here"

And some call that censorship or bullying.

In my opinion, that line for what's "not cool" has been moving.

I don't think so. We talked about that a little the other day. I would say that it's really just the opposite. Anything that is less than politically correct will get a person shamed or "called out".

But now that I'm thinking about it, there's an obvious line between the known and the anonymous. An anonymous person can say anything he wants. There's no way to shame him. I guess that's why I found the whole thing with The Hawk so silly and believed he was telling the truth all along. Why would an anonymous guy get that worked up over honor that wasn't real?

I can understand why this place is difficult to run. I hope whoever is running it finds a happy median for themselves to make it work. The biggest challenge isn't the management. Royko wrote a great column after Lyndon Johnson announced he wouldn't run for office. The point being it wasn't that Lyndon was wrong for the country. More so the people in the country weren't acting their best and it was impacting the country. We'll, Nixon was next in line and we're still here. We can act a little better and we should be fine.

Let's see if we can change that up. Love doesn't create wealth, Road. Ain't no time on Earth for that hugs and kisses bullshit.
