I'd say his ceiling is Fernando Vina. A much better comp.

I just said it wasn't his ceiling, you dumbfuck!

Ceiling: Brian Roberts

Another bad comp, Roberts had some power and lotta K's.. Madrigal is a guy who doesn't K much and little power.

It's a not a comp, it's a ceiling. The comp is Ryan Theriot.

Another good one might be Howie Kendrick.

I think his ceiling is Tony Fernandez, minus the ability to play SS.

I think his more likely outcome is Harold Reynolds, minus the post-career sexual harassment charges.

1987 Paul Molitor seems like a reasonable ceiling.

Will he ever have as good a season as Tadahito Iguchi did in 2005?

Ive always understood career year to mean a year waaay out of line with the guy's averages. Not just a player's best year.

Estaban Loaiza, Mike Bielecki, Brady Anderson etc

Don't you think Rizzo is on the decline? He has his two year peak. He may throw another good one in there,

Rizzo will earn the rest of his very team-friendly contract, but he has to be the 3rd or maybe even 4th option offensively or they are fucked. Defensively, he's one of the best 3-4 1B in the game. But he wants to be this generation's Santo, but with both legs intact.

Yea, probably but he had a bunch of similar years to his best one. Nothing stands out as WHOA, he was waaay better that year.

Estaban Loaiza, Mike Bielecki, Brady Anderson etc

I always just thought it simply meant best year of career, regardless of by what degree.

He's not that good defensively anymore.

He is still a solid 25 Homer 90 RBI guy, but those are a dime a dozen at his position. I do think he is an important leader for the Cubs though.

Yea, and I see some other people who see it as you do.

If that's the case then what do we call a career journeyman winning 21 games or hitting 40 homers out of nowhere (besides cheaters)

A byproduct of the inherent randomness of baseball even in pretty large samples.
