Some idiot on the 5 for 5 said the Bears would have gone to the SuperBowl if they had Cutler at QB this year.

Think his name was Kevin. He is full of horrible sports thoughts and I would PTFB if his segments where longer then the 1min he is gifted on the 5 for 5.

That was one of my first thoughts as well.

Cutler has to be on the list. I know people don't like him and he had a ton of issues, but he was one of the best QBs in bears history...if not the best.

No he was not better then average for his era. His stats are inflated. Did you not watch the same games I did? He was a gunslinger in a era that rewarded gunslingers with stats and not rings.

That era is still going on right?

Top 5?

Payton
Butkus
Hampton
Luckman
Sayers

There have to be at least 8 linebackers in the top 100. In somewhat chronological order, George, Butkus, Buffone, Singletary, Wilson, Marshall, Urlacher, Briggs, and I'm sure I'm missing a guy from before I was born.

Singletary will be top 20, he's the most overrated bear of all time.

Keith Van Horn does not deserve to be on this list. He sucked. And if Thayer (I doubt he will at this point) appears on this list, that's wrong as well. He was worse then Van Horn.

Hilgenberg, Covert and Bortz were the good linemen on the 85 Bears. They covered for Horn and Thayer.

My Top 10

Payton
Butkus
Urlacher
Sayers
Grange
Hampton
Covert
Dent
Wilber Marshall
Singletary

(Yes, Marshall ahead of Singletary. Marshall was a bad ass in his 4 or 5 years here. And went on to more great years with the Redskins.)

I support you in most of your fits of whimsy but you are just simply wrong here. Covert was an all time great. Hilgenberg and Bortz were the best at their positions for half a decade. Their greatness overshadowed Van Horne and Thayer, but each of those guys was very good and occasionally great.

The OL was so deep that really good players like Kurt Beckert and Stan Humphries were backups

Yeah completely agree. It is easy to forget just how good all those guys where.

Ditka has to be a borderline top 10 guy, doesn't he? Player and coach.

I concur that Hampton should not be in the top five. O'B should go before Hampton, because he had the winning interception in the '63 Championship Game at Wrigley.

Ditka is in the top 10 for sure. Johnny Morris should be in the top 20.

Definitely top 10. He is right on the border of top 5. He invented the modern position of TE. HOF, championship as player and coach.

Bears have 28 HOF. A couple are not principally Bears so cut them out. Start with all BEAR HOF as your top 25 in the order you prefer. Then add everyone else from 85 D and OL. That has to already get you somewhere in the 40s without having addressed all the other greats from championship teams of the pre super bowl era. Then leave a space for Mack.

What a stupid comparison. It is rare for a DL to get an interception, and so was O'B rare with his talent to get one, let alone the game deciding one in the Championship.

Barkley is the Bills backup after signing a 2-yr. extension. You keep trashing him, and he keeps showing you up.

Is there any doubt Halas will be #1 if this is a Bears produced book?

How can Halas not be #1. He is Papa Bear. Everything else derives from him.
