For the right price, I want him, even as an average hitter for 2 reasons. When he's hot, he's white hot. I'd chance that for the playoffs. The other reason is the leadership for the young guys. He wants to be here badly and that can rub off also.

When he is cold, he is ice cold.

In 18 games since the ASB, he is .178/.208/.233. Over those 18 game,s he had a -7.73 RE24. A league average hitter would have produced 8 more runs for the White Sox in that stretch.

That is...awful.

The leadership part. Intangible. Probably a bit of importance to it.

The Sox have scored 2 or fewer runs 12 times since the AS Break, the most in MLB. Abreu is has plenty of company being ice cold.

He had 77 plate appearances. During those 77 plate appearances, due to his 18 strikeouts, 5 GIDP, and general poor contact, he left 41 runners on base. Those are actual White Sox players that were on base ahead of him. Actual potential runs he could have driven in. Instead, he drove in 7 runs over an 18 game, 77 PA stretch. And RE24 would suggest that an average hitter, a Schoop or Segura, for example, would have been able to result in 8 additional White Sox runs over that 18 game stretch. 15 RBI in an 18 game stretch sounds much better. White Sox only scored 54 runs in those 18 games, so 8 more runs could have been significant. Especially because 6 of those 18 games they lost by only 1 or 2 runs. 4-14 could have been 8-10 with only Jose Abreu replaced by Jonathan Schoop.
