Burton’s time on the sideline should give the rest of the tight ends — predominantly Shaheen and Ben Braunecker — valuable reps to show that the Bears will be fine at a position that is important to Nagy’s offense.

Monday, though, both of those tight ends had issues with drops.

“I just think we need to continue train tracking the ball all the way in,” Gilbride said. “And that’s across the board with the tight ends. It showed up today with Braunecker, but it showed up with some other guys as well. We’re getting better at it, but it takes a while to dial in and see the football into your hands. But we’re getting better.”

Braunecker did a nice job of positioning himself in front of Kyle Fuller on one of his routes in team drills, but couldn’t hang on to a Mitch (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky pass. Shaheen couldn’t corral a throw down the sideline from Chase Daniel. Braunecker, re-signed for his fourth season in Chicago, has had a few notable drops in camp, and Shaheen hasn’t made the same impact we saw at this time last summer or in the spring.

We will find out pretty quickly if Mitch is the guy. If he's not would they pull the trigger next off season and bring in a vet?

Mitch is the guy. He would have to take a massive step backwards for Pace to not consider him as such.

It’ll be fun when you come to the realization he’s just not that good. Took the Cutler folks years but I think you’ll come around by December.

Then you want a new QB. He doesn’t have it.

He has three (including 2019) of a rookie contract. They should be drafting someone in the 3-4 round area by 2021 regardless of if Mitch is good or bad, just so that they are insured against an outrageous contract demand but three years is a long time.

Unless he regresses, they're going to give him the 5th year.

I'm still on the fence with him, he's got no excuses this year. He's gotta play better, this team wins the SB if he's above average.
