There is nothing that I LOVE more than looking back at the 2017 draft.

2 - BEARS - Mitchell (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky

10 - Pat Mahomes
12 - Deshaun Watson

It never gets old.

I was wondering when someone would finally come up with this thought.

Saying they should have taken Watson or Mahomes is lazy. What they shouldn't have done is bid against themselves to move up one spot. That was amateur hour.

Correct. Giving up that much draft capital at the time was incredibly risky if not stupid.

Couple that with the near certainty that Mitch isn't the guy is a franchise altering, fireable offense

So the only thing that makes me think twice about saying fire Pace is the defense. He whiffed hard on offense and failed miserably. He swung for the fences on defense and connected. Kind of conflicted. At best it's a C- grade for him I guess for me, the minus being for the dumbass trade on draft night.

Not sure what's worse, the colossal failure picking Mitch, the inept development process, or the inability to see what the rest of the league saw in Mitch?

What Pace failed miserably on was not building a decent offensive line as far as I am concerned. I still think that it is too early to make a decision on (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky. Let him finish the season without shackles on him. It he fails thoroughly, then I wouldn't be against going after another guy. I just think that the guy is in his 3rd year and has not failed as yet if people are honest about it.

I do remember when that draft happened and there was not a consensus on who the best quarterback in the draft was. In fact, Mahomes was pretty much a 3rd choice of the three. I wanted Watson and not (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky because he reminded me then of Russell Wilson and still does. I also was concerned with the lack of experience that (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky had in college. So, yeah, Pace made a mistake as it turned out but it is bullshit to say that most of the football world knew that Mahomes was the guy. Give (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky the Chiefs coaching staff, and see if things would be much different. I sort of doubt it as it turns out.

I still see (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky as a younger, slightly smaller Rothlesburger. Not pretty but tough and mobile. I may be wrong but so what. Its only a game and GMs make mistakes all of the time.

Gruden is priming DeShone Kizer for someone like the Bears.

I don't know how you can teach someone how to hit WRs in stride. For some things you either have it or you don't.

I agree with you on the part about the lines, although he did put together a pretty stellar DL. They even seemed deep at the position. I guess it shows you how fragile a strength can be.

We seem to perpetually put building up the offensive line to the next season because our average OT can keep it together for one more year. LT has been an eternal line of J'Marcus Webbs.

Strange to me is how we got fooled to think and be told we had decent offensive lines the last two years. Maybe in the modern NFL lines are just going to be like MLB bullpens year to year?

Long got old fast and Daniels hasn't sufficiently developed yet. The OT were never anything better than average. They aren't playing to average right now. The real hidden piece on the OT though is not having a single TE who can block, so they get no real help. Sowell as a blocking TE was the kind of move I'd expect from a Reinsdorf team

I have been adamant for a long time about upgrading our offensive tackles. Watching Leno and Massie makes me sick. Leno especially. The guy literally is a stand up punching bag who gets pushed all around the field. And losing Long basically the last two years really was a big loss because he covered up a lot for other guys.

Nah this is a Bears problem. Other teams that have made smart investments in the OL have kept a good OL together for years.

Long has sucked for 3 years.

Agreed. I said it at the time, paying Leno was dumb AF. Bringing back Long the last 2 years was dumb AF.

There you go again. You always, always knew the right move. You knew this guy would suck, and that guy would get hurt. You always claim to have known everything.

With the knowledge you supposedly have, it is amazing you aren't working in a front office for an MLB or NFL team.

If a dummy like me sees it, how the fuck could the GM miss it.

At least Pace didn't take him...I remember Mully was all in on him at the time.

We'd be better off drafting kizer at 3 and not losing picks for Mitch.
