Why would I live in Dolton? I would rather just live in Harvey.

Do we have a Richard Roeper mult in the system? or is he too boring to deserve one?

Hard to say, working in Cal City I feel Dolton is worse at night, but Harvey's worse during the day.

Out of boredom I googled the stats and they are not even comparable.

In 2018:

Harvey - 165 violent crimes, 986 total (crime rate 39.59 per 1000 people)
Dolton - 56 violent crimes, 219 total (crime rate 9.61 per 1000 people)

Dolton has been making a strong push since the summer.

No way.. I did a side job on 155th Maryland a few weeks ago.. the whole block was nice AF, all brick well kept homes.

The Englewood of the SS is Phoenix or Ford heights.

I agree with Ford Heights, but Phoenix is practically part of Harvey, so they are pretty much the same area.

I need to throw my old hometown of Riverdale into the conversation. I would put that up against any other south suburb, in particular the Pacesetter area. Makes the worst of Harvey look good.

Tack on another vote for Ford Heights.

And fwiw, Riverdale generally seems like an upscale Harvey/Phoenix. :|

Crime rate for Riverdale is pretty much on par with Harvey. In the end, its all relative. Most of these areas we are discussing pretty much run into or through each other.

Riverdale is practically Chicago and next door to one of the last remaining projects.

Joe Louis 'The Champ' golf course is frequented somewhat often by me. A terrific "shitty" course. Same with River Oaks in Cal City.

Is Riverdale mobbed up?

The family just set stakes there which made me wonder.

Gang, drug and crime infested. You could probably buy an entire block for $250k. As with most places there are some blocks that are perfectly fine.

We’re funded by the EAVs of Cal City, Riverdale, Dolton, and South Holland and we’re getting hosed by them only collecting like 80% of it and it just keeps dropping.

Obviously the community is getting hosed more.

My wife once pushed to get a particular house in South Holland 15-20 years ago. Until I pointed out to her the real estate taxes, local school test scores, Catholic school tuition, costs of the commutes into the city & that we'd probably end up using our old address to keep our sons where they were and to get into vastly better high schools.

I really can't see how most of the south suburbs keep out of bankruptcy. But then again, recent immigrants may try and save them, like they've been trying in Harvey over the last decade or so.

Hispanics are moving to the south suburbs in great numbers. Harvey isn't getting a lot of them.

More than you think. Soccer team has been pretty good for the last decade.

I've noticed quite a few Spanish signs on groceries, laundromats, liquor stores and good little tacquerias popping up, certainly on Dixie highway.
