So much for hoping the move back to Chicago proper would knock some sense into them. I didn't even like the old logo.
Quote:
At the center of our badge, the Fire Crown -- with flames inverted to become a crown -- tells the story of a dramatic rebirth, and how it became the legend of our city's people.

Sure thing, marketing guy.

A picture of a 90% empty soldier field would have been a better picture.

Pretty sure you're going to see a lot of soccer enthusiasts painting this logo on garage doors and under viaducts. Wouldn't be surprised if it started already...

Came across Leandro Vilela… I know nothing about soccer but I would watch him do anything. Very nice.

If someone got a photo.... and put them side by side. That's what Deadspin should have stayed being about instead of drifting into SJW a place to make fun of clueless sports organizations.

Pretty much.

I didn't mind the apparent runner-up.

I don't follow Major League Soccer, but it seems to me that the teams have this European ethic right down to using the "FC" designation. And there's actually a team called "Sporting Kansas City". That sounds as if a person who doesn't speak English named the team. It seems very odd and affected.

I don't really care about the kit. Just put a good football club on the pitch. Did I say that right?

They wanted to separate themselves from their logo and brand in Bridgeview, as well as the TV show.

It's a stupid logo.

Yes and no. The team names and badges when MLS started were distinctive and different and nobody liked them so they went the other way. Is Sporting Kansas City worse than the original name of The Wiz? Not the Wizards, the Wiz. Ideally there’s a middle ground, but that’s boring too.

Quite a bit worst, because nobody beats The Wiz!

Yeah I get it. But make it American. Not European.

KC Manginos.

Chicago Grabowskis.

Fun stuff like that that defines America.

It absolutely is an affectation. They started off with those foofy singular-noun names that were in vogue in the '90s, like the "Dallas Burn" and "Kansas City Wiz," but then the league was kinda circling the drain and did a soft relaunch of sorts where everyone started aping European naming conventions: hence they became FC Dallas, Sporting Kansas City, then added Toronto FC, Cincinnati FC, LAFC, NYCFC, and so on. The dumbest one is Real Salt Lake, which is called that despite the fact that Real Madrid gets its name from being sponsored by the Spanish monarchy and Utah, though certainly not for the Mormon Church's lack of trying, does not have a monarchy.

The weird thing is that the PNW teams all have normal North American names (Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders, Vancouver Whitecaps) and that region appears to be the league's base of power.

seems like a couple of teams, Seattle, Atlanta (?) went with the faux Euro approach and it was highly successful (they draw like 10X the Fire), so they are just copying that.

Can't shake the feeling that no one from Chicago was involved in the design and approval of this logo, because otherwise someone somewhere along the way would have said "no, that's a Latin Kings logo, please don't do that." Oh, well, Brooklyn yuppies know what's best for everyone, that's why they're there.

If it's the latin kings logo, they may have a whole new merchandizing angle.

Not to show my whiteness, but don’t the Latin Kings have a 5 pointed crown and the Gangster Disciples 6 (or 3)?

Disciples sport the Star of David. (after their founder btw) Iirc, back in the day the crown was kind of a throw in.

MLS team names are for the woke who really don't like America but are stuck living here.
