You do realize MANY within the state actively root against Illinois?

Yeah, Madigan sucks, he's a piece of shit, everyone knows that. I still want only the best for the place I'm from.

I thought that was Lake Geneva?

I want the best for my friends and family.

Allegiance to a state is tribalistic and weird to me.

I understand and accept MANY in our society haven’t grown past that tho.

People proud of their state either spent their formative years here or created lasting memories. Nothing wrong with being proud of where you came from.

Chicago is a world class city and many of proud of this jewel surrounded by desolation.

I want the state to fail, so it can get better.

As much as I would like to leave IL, its easier said than done with 98% of our friends and family in the area.

Also, I would be a bit leery of straying too far from the Great Lakes for the simple fact that clean water will never be an issue here.

As I have said in the past, I love the Midwest because it has the best people. I have strong ties to Illinois but the state has gone off the deep end on every governmental level. If the progressive income tax passes, I will work from home in Central Wisconsin in 2021. They are not taking 10% of my salary. Regardless I am selling my Illinois properties in 2024.

What's this?

Denver - a large metropolitan city in the state of Colorado.
Midwest - a region in the United States
Best People - denis' opinion of the residents of the Midwest
Illinois - a state located in the Midwest
Government - system or group of people governing an organized community
Progressive Income Tax - a tax that imposes a lower tax rate on low-income earners compared to those with a higher income
Central Wisconsin - an area of Wisconsin where intra-family marriage is custom
10% of salary - denis' humblebrag of his large salary and random number pulled out of his ass
Properties - humblebrag #2

Yeah! It's kind of like tanking a couple seasons to build up a stock of big draft picks.

I've spent 25 years of my adult life paying IL income and property taxes. When I move out in 3 years, I'll have zero guilt. I've done my part. That's not rooting for IL to fail. That is self-preservation.

Sadly, there is no saving IL. The damage is done.

That’s kind of my point.

Living in IL is limiting your saving potential (granted you can find adequate work somewhere else).

If you could save in between $10-$15k more a year just by avoiding ridiculous property and income taxes why wouldn’t you?

Memories and pride can only go so far before I start to question if you’re mentally handicapped.

Choosing to live in fucking Dakotas, Florida or Texas to save money rather than live life makes me question your mental aptitude, too!

Dakota is temporary, but Florida and Texas have MANY things to do.

You should visit them more often.

I've been. I'm good. If you love Schaumburg but enlarged to hold millions...Florida and Texas are great!

It’s honestly much better to live life somewhere else and visit IL, than reside there.

That’s not a good analogy.

You should visit other places more often.

I do. Travel frequently as a DINK. I have a different outlook than yourself. It's fine. Enjoy FL and TX.

Ok I will when I don’t move to either of those states as I have previously stated.

I love Illinois. Would like to live in certain parts at some point again. Every place has issues.

Retirement is a long way away but I'd be gone for January through March from the Midwest every year if I could.

I hope these people moving to other states will not vote for officials who promote the same policies that have made Illinois a less desirable place to live.

wisconsin has madison and green bay. both wonderful cities. milwaukee is fun to visit but i wouldnt want to live there. the rest of the state is pretty desolate, but overall everyone up here actually likes to have fun. and drink. a lot.
