With his very violent inverted W mechanics, we all knew this day would come. I'm surprised it took this long honestly.

Terrible re-sign by the Sawx. Least surprising news ever , especially after last year .

The trade was good for them. The resigning...not so much.

Smart, even if he didn't need it, get it now in case there's no 2020 season.

Only one if you don't have any baseball this year!

Hopefully since he's out due to game related injury, he's still getting paid this year.

I would presume if Boston wanted to dick around with Sale that the MLBPA would send a very short letter to the team that ends with 'you'.

Funky mechanics and all, it does bear noting that Sale was probably in the top 15 or so for innings pitched from 2010-2019, so it isn't like he flamed out spectacularly. He was essentially durable by 2010's standards. Agreed that his mechanics are non-traditional, but so are Kershaw's.

There is a component of use here in that we have a pitcher who was throwing big league innings at 21 and logged 190+ IP at the age of 23 which is like 1980's era usage for a young pitcher.

Probably the second most successful White Sox 1st round pick ever though, depending on where you are at on guys like Baines and Ventura.

This also completely validates that the White Sox were winners in the trade too given their next viable window to compete for the World Series.

Not to be that guy . . .

I mean, Sale was great and all, but he usually petered out by late July. He was worth what the White Sox were paying him and he was a star, that's for sure. But the guy became eminently hittable by Bastille Day. The Sox were smart to unload him.

He should be back and pretty good for a long time yet.

Everything isn’t binary on a mandatory basis.

Can’t the trade have been smart for both teams?

The W-Sox acquired a bunch of premium prospects, Moncada looks like a pillar going forward, and Koepech pending health should be a top three starter.

The R-Sox won a WS with Sale in a season in which he was probably their most valuable pitcher. He finished in the top 5 of CY voting in two of his three seasons. At best he is out till August of next year, but in 2022 when fully recovered he will be 32 which gives him time to provide value on the back end of his tenure for a team that doesn’t seem interested in competing in 2020.

For there to be any discussion about the White Sox winning the trade, they have to at least appear in a World Series. And even then, they probably have to win one for there to be a legit 'White Sox won the trade' argument.

Has to be 3rd. Baines is a Hall of Famer so him and Frank are tied for first right?
