there is a also a non-zero chance they like Bars at RT more than the interior. Spriggs and Ifedi are not mere depth, there's something more to this.

Yep. It is definitely an upgrade. Wouldn't break my heart not to see Leno screwing us over with a hold or giving up a 3rd down sack.

Spriggs was fucking terrible for the Packers. When he wasn't hurt he was atrocious. They generally do a pretty good job of drafting and developing O-lineman in Green Bay so when one of them is completely awful its usually because the player is in fact awful.

This isn't really true. He was really just hurt all the time, they kept him around a long time. Guys who cant play dont last more than a few years, even the likes of Shaheen that seem impervious to the realities of the NFL eventually meet their end.

Spriggs is awful.

Bears were fortunate Sweaty Teddy traded up to swipe him from the Bears. Ending up with Whitehair instead has worked out

When Massie went out last year they plugged in Lucas and there was really no drop off, Massie is just a replacement level or below talent that they overpaid, Leno was a liability last year and don't see him getting any better, so you can almost just plug in a competent NFL tackle at either spot and improve. The problem is that if you want to drastically improve the long term production at either spot you have to do it through the draft.

They have been plugging in below average players at OT hoping they will be average for what seems like a decade. That's what got us to Leno and Massie. By the way, both of them did play to average in 2018 and the line was ok. Both of them are just as likely to return to that level as any of these other bums.

They only real fix is to be devoted year after year to the OL in the draft.
