Dammit, you beat me to it. Verne just got old, plus MN was his territory. But Greg was awful and unconvincing.

It's Thursday night before a big loop and you have to choose to put the belt on one of two promoters' sons ... Greg Gagne (not the baseball player) or Mike Graham ... who ya got?

Mike Graham must have been after my time (I never followed the WWE as I went to college as the Luce/Bruiser/Gagne territories ended, and I found pussy), but if he could lift 100 pounds and execute a proper elbow to the ribs, I'd go with him.

Mike graham.

I would agree if he were working as a heel, but I'm not sure you want to have a heel win your main event (unless you're Vince who always had his main event before intermission).

Hell yes

I just cant do the women's wrestling. I know that is bad and all, but I just can't. Becky Lynch is interesting once in awhile. Charlotte Flair occasionally. But I just don't like it. I have tried and tried, but I just can't get myself to like it.

During this lock down my daughters and I have been watching a ton of wrestlemanias. And as we made our way into more recent ones my 16 yr old daughter said, "Dad why are they now showing so many more woman's matches? I don't really like them they don't look real. Can we just fast forward past them?" I smiled and said, YES, YES we can!

Yeah main roster women's matches have been meh for the most part for a while.

Overrated by whom? the company or the fans? Because those will yield wildly different answers.

I peaced out on WWE about 15 years ago, but I still pick up enough signal to know about the whole Roman Reigns thing. As for being overrated by fans, I always thought there was something kind of lame about the New Age Outlaws. I don't expect this to be a popular opinion.

Both. In Wrestling its sort of easy to spot a guy that gets a push (Like Greg Gagne or XPac) that doesn't deserve it. With Fans there are guys that get major pops that aren't particularly good in the ring. Because it is staged it's easy to see.

Or it could be a guy (like Piper) that is remembered for being much better than he actually was.

Last time I checked, Syxx could go.

He might've been well-served to talk maybe a quarter of the time he did.

Anyone putting xpac and greg fucking gagne in the same category needs their head examined. Xpac was not the greatest by any stretch but he is worlds better than Gagne in every way possible.

New age outlaws could be considered overrated if just talking actual wrestling in the ring. But they were wayyyy over and made the company a ton of money and roaddog could talk his ass off. So in my opinion they are not overrated.

XPac was garbage. Better than Gagne but not by much. He was bad technically and also not a power guy either. He went unnoticed until the DX thing came along and even then he was still regarded as weak. Hell Chyna was even more highly regarded than he was.

I guess I could never find Billy Gunn cool. Even as a kid I guess there was always something that never sat right with me about Billy Gunn trying to be the pinnacle of cool, or the 1-2-3 Kid ripping off Tupac. Like, why should Sean Waltman from Minneapolis be appropriating Tupac? Looking back, I can see now how bizarre it was the way wrestling in the late '90s would kind of half-understand emergent alternative and hip-hop cultures and then regurgitate them through white guys from Tampa. It was weird with the Outsiders, too.

Before he got injured and fucked up all the time, he was solid. Some of his cruiserweight matches in WCW with Rey and Juvi were great.

You're in Not Even Wrong territory here, Waltman was so highly regarded by Vince that he was used as a human measuring stick against other wrestlers to see how well they could work -- if Waltman couldn't get a good match out of someone, that guy was beyond help.

Billy Gunn was at his coolest in Japan a few years ago. He looked like a damn giant.

Never thought much of him. He really needed to be down with DX to get over.

Vince pushing guys that weren't really all that good in the ring wasn't exactly anomalous. I don't know one main event performer that ever needed to be put over by XPac.

As a solo Wrestler he was a Mid Carder at best.

Well, good thing he was never overrated by the fans, we have the term "X-Pac Heat" for a reason.

Yeah, the nWo needed a guy who could actually work in the ring. Hall and Nash weren't really workers, and Bagwell always sucked.

But that is the whole point of the thread. It's not about the pop or the push it's about performance.

Guys like Dean Malenko wouldn't get 1/10 the pop XPac would get nor would he ever get a major push but as a performer he would run laps around guys like XPac in the ring.

XPac had to be elevated by the guys that they linked him up with. On his own he was always pretty garbage.

Who said he was anything but?

He was basically slotted as an underdog ... not sure how he could've ever helped shine anyone else very much with that gimmick.

FWIW, Malenko's dad was one of Sean's main trainers.

Smallish wrestlers that don't do much besides kick and punch all day. Think I'll pass.

Ok if we're talking about guys who could do shit in the ring, that's an entirely different thread.

X-Pac was a good worker before injuries and drugs. Never a top tier guy but a fine second/third level guy.

Yeah Xpac was a good worker. And you have to take in consideration more than just his WWF days.

Someone said that Hall was not a worker. That is a bad thought too. Granted his NWO days were not his best, but the dude could go. In his AWA and Razor Ramon days he was really good. We cannot just judge people on part of their career.

I saw him in WCW too and he was fairly garbage there also. He definitely was generally regarded as a dude that struggled to pull his own weight.

Sure he would get in there and scrap but he just wasn't all that talented given the amount of push that he received.

If we're talking 'could do shit in the ring', not in any order ...

Bret
Kurt
Dean
Rey
Jericho
Lance Storm
Liger
Tanahashi
Muta
Tajiri
Ultimo Dragon
Juvi
Psychosis
Dynamite Kid
Eddie
Steamboat
AJ
Omega

There are of course MANY more but that's what just fell out of my head.

Solid list.

A couple I'll tack on are Owen and Okada.
