Its just terrible for the game. Really, everything since the advent of replay has been a disaster. It recovered from '94 so I guess it can recover from anything, but man it feels impossible to get enthusiastic about baseball ever again.

Isn't it far more likely that the owners are telling the truth for this year that the more games that are played without fans in the stands the more money they lose if the players are paid the same amount of money per game as they would be otherwise?

Prior to this season, which is a mess, salaries had increased 2.1% since new deal went into place. Baseball revenue has went up 14.8%. So yes the owners should take the loss on an agreement they made in March. They haven't shared much in the gains.

Its not worth the extra month for 14 cents on the dollar.

If only there was a way to guarantee revenues were shared if they went up.

Why not then just accept the 50 games plan then?

I've pretty much had it. I'm about to ask mlb.tv for my money back, and to complain to my credit card company after that. I was looking forward to seeing lot of live minor league baseball, and that is crushed. I don't care who wins a 50 game season, at least not now.

I'm ready for the Cubs to break the team up and rebuild around Baez, Hendricks, and an aging Rizzo, and hopefully the Sox young players don't stall out from the delay in their professional growth.

A 50 game schedule can be imposed on them. Why haven't the owners told Manfred to impose that yet?

I remember hearing a national host a few years ago talk about an accountant from Stanford who got a glimpse at some MLB teams books. He basically said he couldn't do an accurate account with so much missing information. I heard the Braves " lost" 25 million last season, I'm not buying any of it.

The Braves specifically are traded publicly. So that info is out there.

I think some teams are very leveraged towards needing fans. They are motivated to not have a season or delay until they have fans. I believe the Cubs are one of those teams.

Because they would rather have more games at a prorated salary.

I agree MLB should have a salary cap and floor. They already have a defacto cap. The players would have to make sure owners like Ricketts could not hide a large portion of their revenue in businesses tied to the Cubs around Wrigley.

They're going to soon. This is a last ditch face-saving attempt.

That's for another time and another place. At this time and place, all we have is are the owner's word about the bath they are taking. All we have is their word that revenues were 14.8%. Or someone's rough estimate.

Also, is Jon Heyman paid directly by the owners for his tweets?

It is an educated guess. Probably much more.

The owners seem pretty desperate to not play more games than they have to with 100 percent prorated salaries if fans aren't in the stands.

Yeah, they seem desperate. I'm sure the are tossing and turning at night wondering if they can put a meal on the table.

4:24pm: A variety of other notable details of the new proposal have now emerged. Initial reactions from the players’ side to the latest draft agreement seem less than favorable. The league has communicated its view that the sides “need to reach an agreement by Wednesday” in order to prepare for a 76-game campaign.

Players would be guaranteed half of their prorated salaries, per Ronald Blum of the Associated Press. If the postseason goes off without a hitch, the players would collectively stand to earn 75% of the prorated portion of their original salary guarantees.

Looks like Hello, 50 game season.
