Isn't it far more likely that the owners are telling the truth for this year that the more games that are played without fans in the stands the more money they lose if the players are paid the same amount of money per game as they would be otherwise?

Prior to this season, which is a mess, salaries had increased 2.1% since new deal went into place. Baseball revenue has went up 14.8%. So yes the owners should take the loss on an agreement they made in March. They haven't shared much in the gains.

The owners seem pretty desperate to not play more games than they have to with 100 percent prorated salaries if fans aren't in the stands.

I've pretty much had it. I'm about to ask mlb.tv for my money back, and to complain to my credit card company after that. I was looking forward to seeing lot of live minor league baseball, and that is crushed. I don't care who wins a 50 game season, at least not now.
