There were 8 players suspended for drugs the last two years. Only Robinson Cano (24 cut to 13.6) and Wellington Castillo (8 cut to 4.1) had contracts over the league average.

There 6 players suspended for domestic violence. None of them would have made league average with full pay.

14 contracts out of 750 plus will not make a huge impact on average salary when only two were over league average to begin with.

So salaries would have been stagnant with no suspensions. Sounds like things were going great for players the last two years. 14 million in losses would drop the league average around $18,666.

They may have gone up. Not by a huge amount I'm sure. Thats probably more because of moneyball thinking.

How is this going to affect service time?

It seems there would be zero incentive to bring up a star unless you had a brilliant GM like Rick Hahn who bought out service time
