They lost to the D-Backs, correct?? Thats a failure. Look anything less than winning the Championship is a failure. Now you can go on and on about moral victories and "oh lets be happy they made the playoffs" and all that jazz but in the end what does that get you?

They didn't just make the playoffs you dumbshit. They won the pennant. As I said, the ultimate goal is to win the title, but if you win the pennant or make it to the Super Bowl, not a failure.

Yes, winning the pennant but not the World Series means you're the first loser, dumb shit. :D

If you don't win the title than as a team you have failed at your primary goal for the season. Thats why they play. The goal is not to finish second. Look I'm the same boat with the Blackhawks this season. I'm excited as hell that they're actually good again and consider this season a success on a minor level but if they don't win the cup than they will have failed in the ultimate goal. Period end of story. I'm not saying don't get excited about your team being in the playoffs but just getting there means absolutely nothing if you're not the last team standing. If you are ok with just getting to post season and you're happy with that than thats fine but I'm not. There is no reason any pro team from Chicago shouldn't contend every season. We have grown accustom to loosing in this city because lets face thats pretty much all there is. So we have the eternal wait till next year syndrome. Ask Cub fans how that worked out.

Making a trade that enhances the teams chances of actually winning a super bowl big deal.

I feel sorry for you if trading for Jay Cutler is the best thing you've enjoyed about being a Bears fan since 1985.

I'll leave it at that.

What else has there been?? Whats so great about loosing in the playoffs a handful of times and getting your ass kicked in the Super Bowl??

You know why this is great and exciting??? I'll show you:

Because as a Bears fan who has gotten to watch

Kyle Orton
Rex Grossman
Brian Griese
Kordell Stewart
Henry Burris
Cory Sauter
Jonathan Quinn
Craig Krenzel
Chris Chandler
Jim Miller
Cade McNown
Shane Matthews
Moses Moreno
Steve Stenstrom
Dave Kreig
Erik Kramer (Best Bears QB since Jimmy Mac)
Steve Walsh
Peter Tom Willis
Jim Harbaugh (Solid QB who was too inconsistant)
Will Furrer
Mike Tomczak
Doug Flutie (Miserable failure here)

Cutler is the most talented QB to wear a Bears uniform in 20+yrs from a pure skill set. Will he be the most successful, I have no idea but I'd rather take my chances with him than any of these other stiffs on this list.

In the end I get an enjoyable season that didn't end the way I would have hoped. I don't buy this "if you don't win it all it's a failure" bullshit. If you can't enjoy sports unless your team wins a championship there's something fundamentally wrong with the way you view sports. The 91-92 Blackhawks are one of my favorite sports memories. They didn't win the Cup, but night in and night out they were the most entertaining thing going. Hell I enjoyed the 2003 season as a Cubs fan. Was it a monumental disaster at the end? Sure, but I follow sports for enjoyment, not to be some drama whore that gets pissed every year my team doesn't win it all.

That Hawks team is also one of mine however they "failed" to beat the Pens and win the cup no matter how you look at it. Was the season a success on some level, yes just like the Bears in 2006 but they failed to get the job done in the end. Everyone can measure the level of success from there teams how they see fit but the ultimate goal is to win the championship. I too follow sports and play them for the pure joy and entertainment of it and I sure as hell am no drama whore but outside of my White Sox and the Bulls of the 90's there hasn't been much else. I expect more from the teams form this city than we have had but I still enjoy watching and routing for them and that will never change.

Thank you. I was actually going to put that "I'm sure I'm forgetting some". I only go back to McMahon as I was only 7 when the Bears won the Super Bowl.

I notice a lot of revisionist history about the 2006 season. It wasn't a fluke. The Bears were, easily, the best team in the NFC that year. Was it a down NFC? Absolutely. But the Bears team in 2006 was almost certainly better than a lot of recent Super Bowl representatives.

Count me in the camp that says there is success short of winning the Super Bowl, although championships are the obvious goal.

i should be clear...i am not a "championship or nothing" fan by default.

when the sixers made the finals, i couldn't believe they made it. although i wanted them badly to beat the flakers, i knew it wasn't going to happen. i was actually happy they got game 1. i wasn't expecting them to make it that far.

when the flyers made the cup finals, it was somewhat the same thing, although i really wound up hating the red wings even more afterward.

but those teams emotionally don't have the pull that the cubs and saints do--nor do they share the same kind of losing traditions. yeah, the sixers have been mediocre-to-bad for some years but they've been in the mix enough to consider them a "contender" some of the time. they've also won a championship in my lifetime.

the flyers are a little more teeth-gnashing because they always seem to get to the playoffs and then fizzle out.

the saints all my life, except for a few years, have been the laughing stock of the NFL. in fact, at this point they among the elite group of teams that have never made a superbowl (browns, texans, jaguars, lions).

when they made the NFC championship, it hurt bad, but i wasn't expecting them to make it that far. no one was.

expectations will raise your hopes and your disappointments. when i say i'd rather not see the saints in a superbowl just to lose, i'm saying that because history has taught me this team would go ahead and do that. if they won the superbowl, i'd probably go into cardiac arrest from the explosion of happiness that would be pumping through me. i'm also obviously saying this because the saints *haven't* made the superbowl, and that probably changes perspective a bit when your team is actually there.

like i said, wouldn't know what that's like.

not expecting everyone (or anyone even?) to understand that mind set, but it's how i feel.

He's got bigger fish to fry.

I think he's the brains behind the Trump legal strategy.
