The Bears have had FOUR black quarterbacks in 39 years...prior that that, 0.

Vince Evans last season was in 1981 and Kordell Stewart in 2003. some guy named Henry Burris, that I totally forgot about. and Jason Campbell, I guess...

Ryan Pace is from Flower Mound, Texas. 83.9% White. 3.2% African American.

Ryan Pace drafted a crayon eating moron who played 13 games in college vs. a guy who was 33-5 and won a National Championship game.

Did you read Wiederer's article also? It's so fucking depressing to see how badly Pace blew the biggest draft pick in our lifetime.

You're missing one, Doug

Henry Burris. Started 1 game in 2002. Played in 6 games with the Bears.

So that makes 3.

Campbell. Highest paid backup in the league.

Hated the pick from day 1 but not seeing how this is connected to race.

Yep. Jason Campbell.

Started 1 game in 2012.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CampJa00.htm

That makes 4.

What the hell, Doug? Do your research.

But not sitting down with Deshaun Watson is indefensible.

Yep. That hurts that he wouldn't even bother to do that for such an important pick.

Deshaun’s knees were a concern, but goddamn if his NCAA resume wasn’t one of the best I’ve seen.

Certainly much better than one year wonder (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky.

I wonder if Caller Bob has accepted he’s better than Mitch yet?

He’s hoping Watson has cancer in his knees.

I know what Doug meant. They've only had 2 black QBs that were announced the starter before a season started. That's correct. Evans and Stewart.

But they have had 2 backups. Maybe even more than that but I don't think so.

How quickly we forget about Jeff Blake going 8-9 for 55 yards in 2005. As well we should.

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky wasn't a one year wonder. No one cares about QBs at UNC. The most attractive thing about him was that he was inexperienced...the more inexperienced you are the easier it is to imagine you to be something you're not. Classic dumbass mistake then he overpaid on top of that.

Not only missing on Mahomes and Watson but trading up to do so means you gotta go. No reason to give Pace another crack at the draft.

Always seemed like Shaheen or Cohen on steroids. Pace is so obsessed with ‘finding’ talent, he can’t recognize a guy like Watson staring him right in the face.

It’s stereotypical too-clever-by-half stuff.

I’m not sure if he’s racist or too clever for himself—I think he might just be plain dumb. No offense to those of you that went to EIU, but the guys from my high school that went there were shop class sort of guys. Although Sean Payton seems pretty sharp.

It’s been said before, but he and Mitch have a similar cadence to their voices, and neither sounds too bright. I think he saw himself in young Mitch, and fell in love.

Well if Pace saw himself in Mitch, why would he draft him? Pace's ass never made the NFL.

You're making it too complicated. Pace just fucked up. He's not the first GM to do so. He won't be the last.

It just sucks.

From what experts have said, Mitch was the highest QB on the board for a lot of GMs. It just would have been nice if we had a lower draft pick that year, ironically, where he couldn't have made this mistake.

How do you not at least let that guy win you over.

He was arguably the best QB in the draft at the time of the draft. He had all the skins on the wall a player could have. The main questions about him were his medicals and not securing the ball. One of those is easily coached.

I do think people are dismissive of the very real medical issues with his knees. I despise drafting injured players because the bears have been burned so often doing it.

Still, you interview that guy.

They've only had one gay QB in that time as well. That person fits both categories. I have his autograph.

Pace thought he had his guy, and was so worried that someone else was in on him that he traded up and was very secretive about it. To assume race is beyond lazy. Also the RGIII multiple injuries were still fresh in everyone's minds. Blowing out a knee for a quarterback with mobility as a trait is certainly a concern.

He wouldn't even consider Watson or Mahomes as backup plans. You at least need to interview them to be able to say "I really like (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky, but if he isn't there can I go with this guy?".
