Murph really started going at Stone more often after getting his contract re-upped.
Considering Murph still is going on about a "quality bullpen stat" and couldn't grasp the concept of a salary cap in football; if I was Stone I wouldn't bother with the guy either.
Let's see Murph has pissed off:
Boers
Berstein
Farmer
Buffone
Mully
Hanley
and now
Stone
Good thing he's proud to admit he never would go into a lockerroom for an interview. Ozzie would just slug him for either rambling about bullpen quality or asking him why he played one player over another or Pinella would ask him "What the hell are you talking about?" when he goes on about being a bleacher bum, being there with his bugle, back in the day when noone showed up and that being "good times back then!"
When did he piss off Berstein, Farmer, Buffone?
Pray Tell.
Berstein I don't know exact details; but for Buffone, I know he honked him off something fierce when he (Murph) went on and on a few years ago about how "the Bears have a new stadium, they have additional revenue because of it, why don't they invest that into the team?"
Buffone: "Murph, let me tell you; they'll invest what they can, but they have a salary cap to consider."
Murph: "Oh I know that, but they should invest every dime into the players, not lining their pockets like Cubs management."
Buffone: "Murph, like I said; they have to keep in mind the salary cap...."
This went back and forth with Murph continually shoe-horning the Cubs brass into the conversation (including an Andy the Clown sound-drop), until Doug yelled at him asking why it was so freakin' hard to understand that the NFL has a salary cap. I think either Zack or Laurence was in on the segment as well, kinda had to mediate it back on track.
As far as Farmer, back in 2006 Murph was going on and on about how Sox broadcasters hated the Cubs. Farmio called in and told him no, he doesn't hate the Cubs. Murph kept it up, Farmio got POed (I see a pattern forming here) and basically hung up and I don't think has been on all that much since.
I make no excuses for Stoney, as he (like many) can be full of themselves, but considering how many times Murph has pissed off fellow broadcasters; I have to be honest I was shocked he got a renewal on his contract.
