The Bears had the misfortune of putting together their most dynastic team during a streak where the NFC ripped off 12 straight Super Bowl wins. That NFC from 1983 to 1993 was hellacious to play in.

Finks put together arguably the best paired offensive and defensive lines ever.

Dent and Hampton in the HoF and Mongo a 5x All Pro and 95 career sack man playing largely on the interior.

Colvert, Hilgenberg, and Bortz all made All Pro at least once, and Thayer and Van Horne started about 300 games between them.

Unreal.

Obviously those lines were great but the mid-70s Steelers get the all-time nod IMO.

Finks had free reign through the Armstrong era.

And there is nothing in Finks history to lead us to think that he was a pass first offense type of guy.

In that era, especially, you didn't have to be "pass first". Absolutely correct that Finks focused on the front lines of both sides. I still maintain that approach works today...especially on offense. I dominant offensive line could make even (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky serviceable.
Finks had free reign through the Armstrong era.

And there is nothing in Finks history to lead us to think that he was a pass first offense type of guy.
