Wrong? Might be misremembering but thought you were on board with the Fields is obviously the 2nd best QB in this class train

I would have taken Fields over Wilson. Probably would have.

Lawrence
Lance
Fields
Wilson

I think the ceiling for Fields is 2nd only to Lawrence and not by much. But, he’s no sure thing. He’s worth a shot.

The thing to look at is next year’s QB class is garbage. Fields would be the clear #1 next year if he were in it. This is the Bears chance to get someone. I’m cool with it.

Hold on.

Wait a minute.

Dillon Gabriel is a stud.

Not even close to Fields

We gave away two first rounders again for a guy that has a weak arm and a bad throwing motion.

Barely can throw the ball 50 yards but, hey, he can run.

Another bust pick. The Bears overpaid again at the position. They never learn.

The Patriots are laughing they got Mac Jones at 15 and the Bears didn't take him.

Doesn't know how to read defenses, just like the guy before him. Should have probably just traded for Mitch.

One of the dumbest most desperate and irresponsible draft pick with a trade I've ever seen. There is no way that Pace should ever have been allowed to set the franchise back for another half decade by once again making a series of stupid decisions. This locked the Bears into another decade of mediocrity and we should probably start scouting high school junior quarterbacks so we know who we want to draft in 5 years. Pace has solidified himself as the worst GM in Bears history with this latest move.

That's what I expected to think after the draft. Instead, I think as long as you concentrate only on the trade and pick, and not the previous mistakes made by Pace in regards to trading away draft picks, it's a good and defensible trade to have made to catch the qb falling in the draft that could have went as high as 2 overall and clearly has the potential to be an elite player in the NFL. Drafting a QB, outside of pick 1, is mostly luck. You can increase your odds, and Fields has just as high of odds as anyone else out there besides Trevor. The price was steep, but at least the other picks are in the later rounds. Those picks are compounded by some of the other ways that Pace gave up draft picks for very little payoff.

The got a quarterback with a high first round grade. See how it works for 3 or 4 years and be ready to move on if it doesn't to try again.

Nagy can now open up the RPO playbook, Fields is more than athletic enough to be a threat to run the ball, but will he be able to read the D and be able to take advantage of the big play opportunities that Mitch always missed? One of the biggest knocks on Fields was that he tended to hold the ball too long and his mechanics broke down, sounds like Mitch 2.0. That said, Pace/Nagy had to make this move to save their jobs, they had painted themselves into a corner at QB and had no other option other than to mortgage the future. The franchise is way overdue to hit on a QB, maybe this time they will actually succeed, will be able to tell pretty quickly if he has the ability to read NFL defenses.

Brick is exactly right. Ownership is to blame for this pick. Rarely, if ever, is an NFL GM allowed to attempt to correct a colossal mistake at QB. But, that's the Bears

Correct. I’m saying I think he’ll be great and if he’s not, I’ll own that incorrect assessment.

Probably shouldn’t have written I’d do it happily, but just trying to make the point I like the guy and I’m glad Pace made the move.

Correct. And Brick and PM are the only ones blaming ownership for this disaster of a pick.

I propose a tag team match to determine who hates the pick for the right reasons.

I'm just saying Pace wouldn't have had this chance with any other team. That's on George and Ted

Do you know which former Big Ten QB who is going to enter the HoF threw a lot of college picks? Drew Brees-20, 12, 12. I thought that dude had no shot in the NFL.

The QB’s that make it in the NFL are next to impossible to predict.

Agreed. Landing with the right team/coaches at the next level matters too. As I’ve said a few times now I like Fields but I don’t like Nagy. We’ll see what happens when the pads go on.

I would feel better about the pick if it wasn't made by the same talent evaluators that had to trade picks because Mitch (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky was certainly better than Mahomes or Watson. I have no idea if Fields will be great or terrible. He's a great athlete. Hope that translates to NFL quarterback.

Isn't the assumption that Fields was selected by Nagy rather than Pace?

Didn't Nagy have (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky ranked behind Watson and Mahomes?

The story was that Nagy loved (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky, and that's one of the reasons he wanted to come to Chicago. Who knows though? I'm pretty sure Nagy pushed to get Foles though, which seems like an error in talent evaluation.
