Put a dome on it as "Bear weather" is a myth and hosting Super Bowls and Final 4s would be nice.

I never cared for suburban stadiums. While this particular one would be convenient for me, you cut off a large portion of your fan base when you pick a geography in this case northwest. Our transportation systems are much better designed for a downtown location. Now, Arlington does have a Metra station, but that really only helps people along that line or in the downtown area.

Plus the highway congestion would be awful. Several of the 290/90 interchanges already struggle to handle the traffic, and 53/290 and those ramps on Euclid and 14 cannot take Bears traffic.


All that being said, the current stadium is a major pain in/out. And public trans does not help much as it is such a hike from most of the stations.

Still holding out hope for the return of the Decatur Staley’s. Maybe Howard Buffet can sink a few more dollars into post ADM downstate Illinois. Plenty of parking and probably a huge water supply.

MANY of the Bears season ticket holders are on the North Shore.

They wouldn't even need to get on an expressway from there to get home.

East/West travel in Northern Cook and Lake Counties is a perpetual nightmare. Dundee and Lake Cook roads are terribly slow ways to get around. I am not even sure Rte 22 is four lanes in all places. Most people would probably take 294/94 down to 90 and shoot out to 53/290.

Most games are on Sundays. Football is also less of a traffic issue because people get to the stadium early and stay late depending on the time of the game.

Some enterprising businessman - or Pace - will set up a shuttle service off Lake or Willow. Busses will get right of way or special lanes on gameday.

Why do people care so much about the Bears stadium/revenue generating capacity? There is a fixed salary cap.

The Bears lease on Soldier Field is $6.3 million a year. The stadium probably takes 2-3 years to build anyways. If the stadium improves revenue by more than $6.3 million a year it seems to be a no brainer.

M/I homes is building million dollar townhouses in downtown Arlington Heights. Unless HUD is buying that prime real estate, you are not getting mixed use housing in a premier suburb on that property.

I'm kind of surprised by how little resistance this getting from Bear fans. I would have thought there'd be more of a push for a new and improved stadium in Chicago. You admit you screwed up with Soldier Field II and just bite the bullet and fix the problem. Arlington Hts. is about as generic as you can get. I feel like there is more than convenience at stake.
