Who goes to a Bears game for atmosphere?

I actually think the whole full day of game experience at a Bears game is wonderful. The colder the better.

Another bonus of the move? The Bears get to tell this dyke to get bent.

She can't live without that amusement tax as the move would also bring concerts out of the city as well.

Soldier Field is a horrible venue to watch a game.

yep, just a bad stadium all around. Should have made this or a similar move 20 years ago.

They can't even put in artificial turf because the park district whines about it so the Bears are stuck with a dead field by October as the monstrosity of a structure ensures that no natural sunlight hits the grass and high school kids get to ruin the playing surface.

Our transportation systems are much better designed for a downtown location. Now, Arlington does have a Metra station, but that really only helps people along that line or in the downtown area.

Plus the highway congestion would be awful. Several of the 290/90 interchanges already struggle to handle the traffic, and 53/290 and those ramps on Euclid and 14 cannot take Bears traffic.

All that being said, the current stadium is a major pain in/out. And public trans does not help much as it is such a hike from most of the stations.

MANY of the Bears season ticket holders are on the North Shore.

They wouldn't even need to get on an expressway from there to get home.

East/West travel in Northern Cook and Lake Counties is a perpetual nightmare. Dundee and Lake Cook roads are terribly slow ways to get around. I am not even sure Rte 22 is four lanes in all places. Most people would probably take 294/94 down to 90 and shoot out to 53/290.

Palatine/Willow Rd would become very popular almost instantly.

I posted earlier this week the Bears sincere interest in the property.

Not sure if the deal is done, but the negotiations were VERY far along according to my guy.

It's already popular with construction on Lake Cook (and before construction). The traffic would be comical.

Nobody important cares about the fan experience in the stadium. As an avid Bears game TV watcher I hope that experience is better.

KW, I disagree. A new stadium likely means a new owner, or at least a new partner. That helps. Better field conditions will also help.

Or Pat Ryan takes a bigger share than the 20%ish he and McKenna have now. Might be how its getting done in the first place along with the sale rumors that came out a couple months back.

Palatine Road, the expressway with stop lights.

I like the idea of Chicago teams being in Chicago, but I also understand that it is a business.

This decision screams that the Bears are going to sell and are looking to make the team more attractive so they can get a few more dollars.

I assume a new stadium paid for by mostly the public will dramatically increase the value of the franchise? Looking forward to it

Sounds like a win/win. New stadium and new owners.

You Chicago folks better not figure out the westbound frontage road stoplight sequences.

Not very. But he is sitting out at Arlington and I'm sure talking to the local bigwigs. But Louisville might keep those guys in the dark or feed them bad info too.

I completely get it, but this isn't exactly 1956. You don't have to do much for your major market sports franchise to double in value in 10 years. Mama Bear must be about to check out and all of the baby bears need their money now.

I hear you, but I like people like Mama Bear and Uncle Jerry. I wouldn't want someone without a Chicago connection to own my favorite teams.

 I guess. But I did hear it before it was in the media. I didn't really think much of it. There are lots of rumors around a racetrack. Most of them are bullshit.

Would the current PSL owners get to transfer seats to a new stadium or would they be screwed?

I imagine they would and the wait list folks may be able to get a seat instead of passing it down to grandkids.

Pat Ryan is the future and sufficiently Chicagoish. He’s not exactly a young man; hopefully there are some Rocky Wirtz-types lined up behind him.

Soldier Field playing surface has always been horrible, and when I found out the Chicago Park District is in charge of the Field maintenance I could only imagine the bullshit Bears front office people have had to put up with.

Also this:

Any true Chicagoan knows that you have to put an "s" on it even if you misspell it.

Moving from Chicago will result in a corporate name change for the stadium. That's going to absolutely suck. I'm going to call wherever the Bears play Soldiers Field until I die.
