The olympics mostly suck I get burned out on them easily. I guess I like a few events and it does have it's moments. I remember some successes and some failures as the best moments. Derek Redmond is my all time favorite olympic moment. This is neither, it's bizarre. She's just giving up, all that work, all that sacrifice, all the great moments she's had seemingly for nothing. I can't see how that's good for mental health but whatever. People can convince themselves of a lot of things.

I quit on gymnastics as a kid when I screwed up and got hurt on a vault. As a result, I've always respected their athletic skill and risk they're taking. Especially her trying to keep pushing the envelope. But while I don't really watch much anymore, I do know that her performance has been tailing down since at least the Olympic trials. Hers issues aren't brand new. And that the knee jerk criticism here is laughable. Funny how it's usually the guys who know the least about sports.

I really am beginning to believe that it's a generational thing. Between the ex 49er from Wisconsin that quit after year two, to Paul George and now with Osaka and now Biles, young athletes are worried about all kinds of their own long term health more than us olds can usually appreciate. Realizing how short athlete's lifespans have historically been, I get it.
