Take the NL, remove the pitcher from the hitting lineup, add that aging slugger and yeah, that makes a huge difference.
IMHO, you can't compare pitching stats in the AL vs. the NL anyway. Different rules.
In the NL you basically get one automatic out every 3 innings with the pitcher batting.
In the AL you have an additional slugger.

It's a double wammy with the different rules of each league. Not only do you have the pitcher batting but you avoid the "Power hitting" DHs that the American League has. All of the big sluggers that can't field play in the AL.

If you have an ERA below 4.00 in the AL you are a hell of a pitcher. A 4.00 ERA is much more impressive in the AL than it is the NL.

Yes, but not as the quality of players, but based on the fact that there's more hitters in an AL lineup.

His record in 2005 with Toronto his last season there, included a 4.13 ERA, as well as 15 wins. He had 81 Walks and 160 Stikeouts. This season (as well as last) he also has the 15 wins. He also has 61 walks and 175 Strikeouts. Those numbers are VERY similar. You put a DH on N.L. teams and the numbers might very well be the exact same.
