Singletary was a great player but Wilber was the best linebacker(talent wise) that's not a controversial take.

I'm tired of the lazy narrative that Singletary sucked. He didn't. He was great.

He was surrounded by great players later. He was better than Otis in 1983. Wilbur was in HS when Singletary was coming in. He was better than McMichael. The same arguments people make against Singletary can be made against McMichael...

Singletary ran the D. He told those HoFers where to line up, what to key on, where the play was.

You don't play MLB on the Bears for 12 years and be an underperformer. It's the dumbest argument that Chicago ever came up with. Why? I'd take him today in a minute and drive him into town.

Well said Doc. It is lazy narrative and it has been aided by how awful he was as a coach and some didn't like his outspoken religious beliefs.

Wilbur was the best LB in that crew, but that does not mean that Singletary was not really good as well.

Any of the Singletary wasn’t that good nonsense should be put to bet by virtue of the fact that Buddy Ryan loved him. You guys think Ryan was going to hitch his wagon to a mediocre player ? Cmon he threw compliments around like manhole covers. He wouldn’t have heaped the praise he did on him if he wasn’t the great player he was .

Mike Reichenbach was surrounded by Clyde Simmons and Jerome Brown and Reggie White and Andre Waters and Todd Bell and they lost to the Bears in the playoffs, led by the crappy Mike Singletary at age 30.

Singletary was Defensive POY two times. Which is 2 more than all those players combined.

He is one of only eight players to win the award twice.

When you watch Singletary highlights you almost always see the exact same thing...Dan Hampton being and absolute monster, destroying offensive lineman, making it easy for #50.

The more you see an out of shape Hicks get washed down the line repeatedly after he comes of the ball high sack hunting, the more you appreciate #99 almost always playing the ultimate team game by coming off low, wrecking blocking schemes and forcing the back or QB to pause for a second and reroute himself.

Yes, Dan Hampton was great. Maybe the toughest Bear in my lifetime and a pro bowl player at both tackle and end.

That doesn't mean Singletary was not. He definitely was and he was definitely better than Wilson and probably better than Marshall, who were both excellent in their own right.

He was first among many, many greats and he was there being great before most of them started playing.
