He’s a better coach at the NFL level than he is at the College level.

Toub does it for me.

He has always been innovative as an STC. He takes players and coaches them up into pro bowl level ST players. He's a veteran who has served under two great coaches (one offensive minded and one defensive). His time in the league should provide him with a wealth of contacts for coordinators. I think he'd be really good as a chairman type of HC, which is ultimately what that position is.

I third that motion. He's my pick.

I think it's more about him not being an offensive or defensive coach. We want experts on one side of the ball.

I always thought it was because he's not big, flashy hire.

SNF is not talking about the job Dave Toub did earlier that day.

But, he is 60. I'm OK with that.

I'd be fine with Toub, but it won't matter if Ryan Pace is still General Managing this team.

I'd rather have Harbaugh than Toub.

They are going to do the most Bears thing possible. Pace will be retained and the family will hire Jeff Fisher to be the new HC.

Dan Patrick and Albert Breer were all over Ryan Day to the Bears this morning.

Pace will likely be retained...Jeff Fisher would be a very Bears-ey hire.
Then again....Leslie Frazier would as well.

Jim Harbough is not getting hired. Let's just put that one to rest already.

I guess you have a fetish for being wrong.

What exactly is it that you like so much about Toub?

Why? Name me one - just one - time an ex. OSU coach made the jump to the NFL and didn’t immediately succeed.

Or any successful college head coach. Who has made a viable transition in the past 20 years? Harbaugh and Carroll are all I can think of. And Carroll was a returning NFL guy who already had some modicum of success as an NFL head man.

It is kind of a pathetic list. Next up may be Kingsbury, and he’s marginal at this point and probably wouldn’t be considered a ‘successful’ college coach.

Yeah, he'll be an interesting follow in that the Cardinals were terrible in 2019, average in 2020, and are dominant this year.

The Bears are due to make a 'in the Bears family' hire. Why not hire Ron Rivera and give him a say in personnel. He could hardly be worse than Pace and Sundays would be a significant upgrade.

I echo gd's thoughts on ST coaches. The head coach is not a coordinator. He's a manager of coaches and personnel and strategy.

Toub, I think it's fair to say, has been an exceptional ST coach in taking advantage of rules and strategy. ST coaches also have to manage all personnel. I think it is a mini-head coach position and he has excelled and been through a few very successful organizations.

I think he is a viable candidate and would relish the opportunity. He's like Bruce Arians - give an old lifer an opportunity.

Could Toub really be worse than Nagy or the "offensive experts" that coached while he was the ST guy here?

I think he's a really good coach right now and would be a really good head coach.

Toub had to have a handle on both the offense and the defense. Special teams is a major part of both. He'd be a very solid head coach and could manage both offensive and defensive coordinators since he's always been well schooled in both schemes.

Hub would be unlistenable if his close friend Rivera got the job.

It is pretty well accepted that special teams is a pipeline for future head coaches.
