After the playoff loss, NO!

I’d tend to agree unless Kopech has it together. The Astros destroyed WS starting pitching when it mattered most and the bats were mostly quiet.

I'm not ready to dismiss out of hand any of the top 4. Giolito and Lynn are very good pitchers. I felt like the team coasted into the playoffs, and it cost them. Going to Houston was a terrible situation. Not going to use that example to say I will not trust the starters ever again in the playoffs.

I was high on Kopech until last season. He had a few outings where he kinda blew up because he didn't like certain calls. Like, you can't fall apart because of that.

You are right.

He needs to show more maturity this year

He showed growth last year. Look at where he was when he first showed up. He was a cocky kid who seemed to really care about his physical looks on the mound, and who wanted to throw the ball through a brick wall. That persona changed greatly last year.

On The Score they were saying Co-Pitch was only hitting 94 the other day

Agreed.

But now he has to learn to pitch through the missed call or the extra out the Sox defense is known for.

If starters are going to go through the lineup twice, you really no longer need a stud starter to guarantee post season success. They need their lineup to come through in the post season, if it doesn't, their starting pitching really isn't going to matter.

A good bullpen doesn't guarantee playoff success, but a bad one guarantees a loss. So yeah, the 1-3 starters are important, but the lineup and the bullpen are more important in the playoffs.

This is where I'm at.....I wish I had WFR's optimism, but I can't find it.
I don't think the result would have been any different last year had the opponent been Tampa or Boston.

Where is Jake Burger playing to be an improved player?

I hope Cease makes a bigger jump than Kopech.

Looks like 3B to start the season with Moncada out on 10 day list.

Under normal circumstances he's last on the 2B depth chart

He's just another of several DH's stacked on the roster. I like his bat, but FFS like Eloy, you put him on the field and he's an injury waiting to happen.

Are we supposed to root against him now? Guys leave and the Sox pretty much held the door open. I have no issues with Rodon. In fact I hope he does well.

neither do I

he got heavy. I think his conditioning was always a problem. It wasn't during his breakout season.

Eloy looks a little chunkier this season as well.

I hope he does well too.

Let's re-visit this in August and see how he is doing then.

Be revisionist all you want on Rodon. It was risky unless at a discount. He wasn’t and shouldn’t have taken a discount.

He is what he is. Het got into shape when his career was on the ropes. He always had dominant stretches, at the end of the day, he went like 120ip last year. Would I of matched the 2yr deal, yes. I still don't know why they didn't QO him, unless they had an agreement.

He's going to pitch in pain for 2 years and hang it up. My guess he told the Giants this and that's why he got the contract. Now we'll see how much pain that rotting(not an opinion, it is a fact) shoulder can actually endure?

He has (d) the best stuff on the staff . The best shape of his life stuff is crap too. He got hurt being on the best shape of his life ( just like Giolito ) and hurt not being in the best shape of his life . That said cant extend him, was wise to let him be someone else's part-time player.
