On top of that, I thought this was the best thing about Fields ' performance: 10 3rd down conversions (the Bears had 11 overall), with five passing conversions and five running conversions. Two of those passes went for 20 yards each. That's important and I hope we see more of that.

Yeah, the passing stats only tell half of the story. The only person who could stop Fields last night was Fields himself. He made some elite plays, but he also made some awful unforced errors. Fortunately, the good outweighed the bad. It will be interesting to see whether or not he can keep the momentum going next week against one of the premier defensive teams in the NFL.

FIelds is a little Cutleresque with his decision making. Some, maybe even most of that, can be coached out of him. The sheer talent, speed, and playmaking ability he is cannot be coached up or coached in to anyone.

You seem to blithely dismiss Fields' fumbling problem, which he has displayed since entering the league. The fact that he or his teammates have recovered the bulk of them strikes me as pure luck. He needs to be more careful with the ball or his carelessness will result in losses for the Bears and/or his benching.

I don't disagree with any of this. I'm not ignoring the ball security and accuracy issues. I still can't recall a game where a quarterback almost had 5 turnovers, but he was in complete command of the game and the best player on the field. I was more encouraged by his performance for 4 quarters than I've been in any other game.

He could have made the same "bad decision" and not fumbled simply by holding onto the ball more tightly. Many of his fumbles have been unforced errors or committed with only light or moderate amounts of defensive pressure.
