You are missing an important part of his game. Also, the Bears ran the ball the last 8 or so minutes. Most teams would have thrown in a couple of play action passes that would have goosed that passing line. Bears just kept pounding it, all the way to the point of taking a knee at the 1

On top of that, I thought this was the best thing about Fields ' performance: 10 3rd down conversions (the Bears had 11 overall), with five passing conversions and five running conversions. Two of those passes went for 20 yards each. That's important and I hope we see more of that.

Yeah, the passing stats only tell half of the story. The only person who could stop Fields last night was Fields himself. He made some elite plays, but he also made some awful unforced errors. Fortunately, the good outweighed the bad. It will be interesting to see whether or not he can keep the momentum going next week against one of the premier defensive teams in the NFL.

Me too. Even when the Bears went down 14-10, it was a fun game to watch.

I don't know how Bob and Rogue manage to get themselves dressed in the mornings. Just mind numbingly awful takes on a daily basis.

Justin Fields was the best offensive player in the game. Even with the 4 fumbles.

The Bears could win 13 game next season, and Fields could win league MVP and Super Bowl MVP and certain people would still bash him. Gee, I wonder why ??

Several times I was surprised and admired his ability to feel pressure and escape it.

It was a solid performance, Bob. It's really the first one I've seen from him. I didn't see he was great or dominating, but as Nas said....he showed poise and confidence.

When the Bears win the Super Bowl, CB will complain that the trophy is not shiny enough.

Easily the best offensive player I would say.

But things could have easily been disastrous if those fumbles bounced a little differently.

Not going to win many games like this but maybe theyll play more teams who also have 2 bad quarterbacks.

FIelds is a little Cutleresque with his decision making. Some, maybe even most of that, can be coached out of him. The sheer talent, speed, and playmaking ability he is cannot be coached up or coached in to anyone.

So Fields may be a high end running back and is elite at recovering fumbles.

You seem to blithely dismiss Fields' fumbling problem, which he has displayed since entering the league. The fact that he or his teammates have recovered the bulk of them strikes me as pure luck. He needs to be more careful with the ball or his carelessness will result in losses for the Bears and/or his benching.

I literally just compared Fields to Cutler who was a turnover machine at times. I hardly think that is being dismissive of anything.

I don't disagree with any of this. I'm not ignoring the ball security and accuracy issues. I still can't recall a game where a quarterback almost had 5 turnovers, but he was in complete command of the game and the best player on the field. I was more encouraged by his performance for 4 quarters than I've been in any other game.

Fumbling is not a "decision making" problem, so your comparison to Cutler seems odd.

You're both dumb...that is textbook example of a BSB, all he had to do was lead with the hands. Shouldn't have been an ejection though. Flag was either from umpire or referee as down judge and line judge are taking the goal line.

You can't block at all heading towards your own goal line. Only heading upfield.

Not quite...

It is a foul if a player initiates a block when his path is toward or parallel to his own end line and makes forcible contact to his opponent with his helmet, forearm, or shoulder.

https://www.footballzebras.com/2020/12/ ... r-illegal/

As I said above, if he leads with the hands it is legal...

Fumbling because you are holding on to the ball too long or not throwing it away when you have the opportunity to do so IS a decision making problem. Like Cutler deciding to chuck it downfield only to allow DeAngelo hall to pick it off four times in the same game.

Not sure why you find this very similar comparison to be so odd.

Its a perfect apt comparison as explained above, TM.

The Fields fumble that went out of bounds last night was a bad decision. He could have and should have thrown the ball away. If you don't understand that, I don't know what else to say.

He could have made the same "bad decision" and not fumbled simply by holding onto the ball more tightly. Many of his fumbles have been unforced errors or committed with only light or moderate amounts of defensive pressure.

You are conflating ball security with something unrelated to ball security.

What?  Oh, so holding on the ball tight and taking a sack to lose 10+ yards is he same "bad decision" as throwing the ball away when he was already out of the pocket and had a clear lane to throw the ball down the sideline? Now THAT is goofy as shit.

I didn't know you were going to play Brick Midget today. Have fun, dude!

I haven't said anything of the kind. All I'm saying is that holding the ball tightly instead of loosely is not a "decision making" issue. And no one who plays, coaches or analyzes the game describes it as such.

I'll feel better if they play well and lose at the end. The only game I need them to win is against the Packers.
