Great series this weekend?
The AL Central is going to take the brunt of the more balanced schedule. I know you're done looking for something to grab onto, but if any Sox fan is looking for something, it's that. That and health. I myself couldn't care less about winning a division half assedly, I'm completely done with that shit because promises were made. They're on tape and in black and white.
The only thing I can hope for this year is to enjoy maybe another 2-3 games in person with my son or friends, and nice weather. I am 1-1 in that department. I couldn't care less about the outcome of the game I attend. The one I went to was the Thursday game when the Giants hit like 8 HRs. My kid and I had a great time.
I get your point about being competitive in games and playing good baseball. Sometimes you play a really crisp game and lose. It happens, that's baseball. But I can't say the Sox went "toe to toe" with the Rays this past weekend. Sure they played better than they had in recent series, but still went 0-3. Kopech got rocked early on Friday, but the Sox were still up 2 runs in the 9th. That's a game you have to win. Saturday's game went to extras and the Sox failed to score with the ghost runner at 2nd. They only had 5 hits the entire game. When you're on the road you have to get the guy in no matter what. At least put some semblance of pressure on the home team. Giolito did his Giolito thing again yesterday where he often puts his team behind early in the game, and the Sox only mustered 3 hits.
Agree with your last sentence. The bar for this rebuild being a success was a World Series title. The bar for 2022 being a success was
winning the pennant. I see no reason to back down from that viewpoint anytime soon, which probably means a hellava lot of failed seasons from here on out.
The Astros have been the 'de facto cream of the-class' as they have won the AL Pennant the last two years. The Sox knew exactly what they were up against after the 2021 season. The team they had to be better than had just completed cleaning their clocks in the ALDS. The Sox got worse. The Astros got better.
Nothing will change until Jerry dies or sells and the longer this sort of shit goes on the more and more likely I think it is that the White Sox move to another metro area.
