He's playing great right now, but in prior seasons he's never finished among the top 20 corners in the league according to PFF.

He's probably a $14-15M player. He's not a $20M guy. I would feel better about trading him if I thought Stevenson was good.

Yeah, the Bears are in a difficult situation. They're either going to have to overpay for him or receive an underwhelming return in trade.

I'd probably keep him. I don't trust Stevenson or Gordon. While I like Terrell Smith, he is injury prone.

Luckily Poles is african american or we would get to hear a media conspiracy about the only player that has been extended being Kmet.

I want Jaylon Johnson here. He's delusional if he thinks he should be paid like the top cb in the league.

2 years in a row a young player publicly demands a trade. Poles is the dumpster fire.

Who cares about saving Ginny’s money?

The team needs talent and has a fuckton of cap space. They can absorb a slight overpay to avoid creating another hole on a defense full of them.

Poles did go to BC. You might be on to something. Let's run with it

How you improve a football team

You replace players with better players.

Poles seems to have grasp the concept of cutting/trading/not resigning players.

He doesn't seem to understand how to replace with a better player, in fact outside of DJ Moore, he's mostly filled roster spots with shittier players

A slight overpay isn't 40% above market.

They already overpaid Kmet.

It sucks to lose a guy like Johnson but he isn't worth the money he is evidently asking for. Same with Roquan Smith.

I think Jaylon Johnson is a good cover corner when healthy. I think he's a good guy to have in the locker room. I don't think Jaylon Johnson is a $20M a year player. I don't think Jaylon Johnson is a top 5 corner. The Bears don't have to pay a good player great player money just because they have it. There will be draft and free agent opportunities.

Draft, ok, but that's one less pick you can use to fill gaping holes at Center, Tackle, Defensive End, Safety, another WR etc. (and possibly QB)

Specifically, who would you like to target in FA to replace Jaylon Johnson?

Unless Bagent balls out, they'll draft a quarterback in the first round. They'll also draft Harrison or Bowers. I suspect they'll fix the defensive line in free agency and use a 2nd or 3rd round pick on the center. Connor Williams and Andre James great free agent options.

I was just looking at some free agency site and they list Johnson's value under $10M. I may have been too generous. Here are a few options in free agency:

CJ Henderson
Noah Igbinoghane
Jeff Okudah
Emmanuel Moseley

That feels steep, but these guys usually go for more. Now, they need to lock him up today.

Hopefully he can create a locker room culture that allows Poles to draft good players going forward.

Sweat is a good not great(never had double digit sacks in a season) and it will almost be a first round pick again.

He'll have double digit sacks this season. My only concern is he's 27. If he were 25, I would be thrilled. Now, I'm more concerned about the contract he's about to sign with the Bears.
