Of course not.

But did they even interview any great candidates?

Who are the great candidates they should have interviewed?

No idea whether this is good or bad.

At least he had done the job before

I don't know, that's why I'm asking.

I'm guessing the Bears don't know either.

Maybe Trace Armstrong knows.

 Looks like Trace Armstrong really does know.

There is now a report out there Eberflus has been vigorously defending Fields during the OC interviews.
Means something , means nothing.....

I think is to just balance things out with the possibility of drafting a QB #1. They do not want to tip their hand.

The Bears have now outsourced defending Fields to Keyshawn Johnson, who they just signed to a consulting contract, leaving Eberflus to spend more time reviewing HR complaints against his staff.

Yeah I wouldn't put too much stock into that either. They have to keep his value high.

By implication, these OC candidates were shitting on Fields during the interviews.

Why do they need to keep his value high? Afterall, any bad result by him is clearly the product of the worst oline and worst WR's in football. Any GM should know that right?

I agree - there are very few Bears QBs outside of Fields that increase the other team's chances of winning.

It would be a fascinating interview process. You have 10+ candidates who don’t know whether to trash Fields or plead for the chance to unlock him. And from Poles’ perspective, if he had made up his mind one way or the other but the majority of candidates went the other way, how does that affect who you hire and what you do with Fields?

nobody was asking for Herb's opinions until CHGO was created. I have to imagine their White Sox show is the least popular of all its local products.

He seems to have been involved with top 10 defenses just about everywhere he’s been. Looks like he’ll be in charge of developing the younger players which he’s had success doing elsewhere.

As long as he doesn’t have a secret porn addiction he should be a good hire.

He’s been involved with some good defenses but his time as an actual Defensive Coordinator leaves a bit to be desired. It probably doesn’t matter anyway since Flus is the actual DC.

The Panthers struggled during Washington’s two seasons at the helm, including a 2019 campaign where Carolina finished 31st in points allowed and 23rd in yards allowed.

Your hatred of Justin Fields is noted. Unfortunately for you, you are missing what should be obvious with who the Bear's have selected as their offensive coordinator staff. Both Waldron and Kerry Joseph have an expertise in developing quarterbacks who have failed in the past to live up to the expectations that the organizations that drafted them for one reason or the other. Joseph in particular was the main guy used for reclamation projects that utilized the qb's underlying skills as the basis for the design of plays which had a large probablity of success within an offense. Hence the success the two of them had with the resurrection of Geno Smith.

So, don't jump off thebridge when the Bears trade their number one pick for a boatload haul of draft picks and other players instead of taking another can't miss pick likely to end up on the trash heap of pampered qbs who didn't make the NFL

"The point being, playing quarterback is hard, but it tends to get easier over time. Just because the Peyton Mannings and Tom Bradys of the world figure it out well before they're 30 doesn't mean we should write off the players who don't catch on so quickly.

The problem with Cutler has never been his physical skill-set, which bodes well for his future as he ages. Instead, the mental side of the equation has been problematic, which is why, to this point, Cutler's outlasted every coach and coordinator who's ever set foot in Chicago. At some point, the thinking goes, it'll all come together for Cutler. Maybe one day in the not so distant future, he'll eliminate those multi-pick meltdowns."

It is obvious to me that Fields has all of the tools to be a very good NFL quarterback. He can make all of the throws and his running ability is off of the charts. He has improved a lot last year with the improved talent he was given. It will be the new OC group to meld his talents with the play calls made not to force the play calls based on what an offensive coordinator dictates. Cutler was a egocentric quarterback who didn't take coaching well which is a difference with Fields.

 We are fast approaching the point of " Fields is better than Cutler ( who was himself barely average for the Bears) and when you think about it, probably the best qb we've ever had" territory !!
