You know, these people in Illinois and Chicago government have telephones. They can call people in Minnesota and ask how they feel about Warren’s handiwork there. I’d imagine they get an earful.

Sounds like making a slightly improved version of a stadium that so far has gone really well is a better option than trying to reinvent the stadium design process.

OK, great. Where’s the money for it?

It depends how much they need and if they get any government help.

But, I've never seen an NFL team ever say "We would have built a new stadium but we're poor so oh well".

I don’t know if there is a more alarming answer than that one to the question of “Hey, how are you gonna pay for all this?”, especially for a lender.

As for your latter point, the McCaskeys seems to have found a way to fail where all others before them succeeded. Not uncharacteristic for them.

Well, it depends on if it is on the lake or in Arlington Heights. The funding is far different between the two places. Funding in AH will be easy. The NFL will help some but what bank wouldn't give them a loan for something that is a lock to print money with the incredibly unlikely scenario of it "failing" that the bank owns a team they can sell for $6 billion.

But again, when in the history of the NFL has the ability to fund it stopped a stadium from being built? It's not going to happen for the first time with one of the most historic and valuable franchises in the league.

Allegiant Stadium is awesome though. What stadium would you base it off of?

Would it be too much to ask to have an original design a la Minnesota? I know Kevin is busy with chair panache levels, but getting a copy of what the Raiders did wouldn't feel good.

The problem is when you do an original design like in Minnesota you run into the fact that it needs $280 million over the next 10 years in repairs to continue to be usable.

Allegiant is original too, does it need repairs?

They don’t even have concepts of a plan to theoretically finance.

It doesn't have a roof which is kind of important in a place that is cold and snowy 5 months of the year.

I’m sure they could get a loan if they asked; they would rather get a gift.

Not that important to the people who live in Green Bay, Buffalo, Denver, Boston, New York, Philly, Pittsburgh and Cleveland.

Isn’t Kansas City the coldest? Chicago, Green Bay, Cleveland and Buffalo all have the lake effect warming. Denver has its unrelenting sun. KC is just brutal.

Yeah, like a dome is better in the Midwest winter. Very controversial.

That game in Kansas City last year was awful, but on average I would guess that Green Bay and Buffalo are still quite a bit colder.

I can't understand how any Bears fan could want the team to play in an indoor environment at home. Plastic grass, plastic glass, this whole simulacrum to make you feel as if you're almost outside watching a game people would traditionally play outside, but not outside. There's such a sadness about it, this team that's supposed to be at the heart of the league, playing at a multipurpose conference center upon which a carpet is occasionally rolled out for football games. It's bad enough the Saints play in a cave and they're a tier below the Bears in terms of cachet.

Because the moment you watch a football game in a dome you wonder why you want to ever watch football in 25 degree weather again.

Huh?? Kansas City is about 10 degrees warmer than Green Bay every month of the year.

I lived around KC for a few years after having grown up in the Chicagoland. KC gets cold. But it is not the coldest by any stretch compared to those other places.

I think the biggest support for this is the way they went about acquiring Arlington Park. If they had worked the proper backchannels to get a stadium built at minimal private expense (minus bulk purchases of palm grease), I think they probably could have done it. Instead, they just went out, announced that they had just bought 300 acres of land in the suburbs, and that now it was time for taxpayers to give them a free mixed-use development, for they are the beloved Chicago Bears and we owe them that for some reason. Turns out people with presidential aspirations don't like that, and now their only ally in government at a time when they need government assistance is Mayor Hotep.

Even competent sports franchises struggle to pull off these big real estate projects. The St. Louis Cardinals were going to build their own Wrigleyville but topped out at "giant mud puddle" for almost a decade. I think there's a TGI Friday's with condos above it now. Good for them.

Compared to Chicago, Kansas City generally experiences warmer temperatures throughout the year, with significantly milder winters and slightly hotter summers, especially noticeable in the colder months like January and February; however, both cities see similar average temperatures during the summer months like July and August.
Key points about average temperatures:
Chicago:
Expect colder winters with average temperatures in January around the mid-20s Fahrenheit, while summers see average highs in the low 80s Fahrenheit.
Kansas City:
Winters are milder with average temperatures in January typically in the mid-30s Fahrenheit, and summers are slightly warmer with average highs in the mid-80s Fahrenheit.
To get a more detailed breakdown, you can check out a weather website for specific monthly averages for both cities.

The Browns are officially moving to a dome in the suburbs. Though to be fair it doesn’t look like Cleveland will go down without a fight.

We can't build housing but we can build football stadiums that replace 25-year-old football stadiums.

It's merely a 'focus'

Quote:
Cleveland Browns owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam have confirmed they are indeed focusing on a new domed stadium in suburban Brook Park, releasing a statement yesterday saying, “The transformative economic opportunities created by a dome far outweigh what a renovated stadium could produce with around 10 events per year.” The statement also said that “this stadium will not use existing taxpayer-funded streams that would divert resources from other more pressing needs,” which neatly obscures the fact that it would use $1.2 billion in new taxpayer-funded streams that would divert resources from other more pressing needs. And headlines like “It’s official: Cleveland Browns moving to Brook Park” remain premature, since nobody in state or local government has approved the $1.2 billion in tax money yet, so really we’re still just at “Browns owners’ #1 choice is someone giving them $1.2 billion,” and who wouldn’t want $1.2 billion? I bet you could roll around in it real nice.
