In 93 or 4 after the alleged kicking of his son incident (Might of been the accidental head butt a year later) he turned around at Welsh Ryan and called the student section a bunch of sick bastards or something to that effect. That's the closest I have to an interaction with him. We probably deserved it but god did those NU teams suck (Although that 94-95 team did make a rare NIT appearance with occasional loon, Ricky Byrdsong drawing up plays from the bench or stands).

A true legend. And IMO the greatest basketball mind to ever exist!

My favorite quote of all time. I have it hanging up in my office.

And my favorite youtube clip of all time

I am not here to fuck around this week. You maybe. But I am not!!

RIP Coach!

Nice clip! Never heard that.

My dad was a kid's coach, and a pretty sharp basketball guy, and he idolized Knight (and only partially because he played lots of white guys). We watched them twice a week during the season in the early 80s on the Indiana channel that we somehow got. Knight was the best. It was always an event to play Indiana. He and Lou Henson had some great verbal battles, but he was pretty nice to Lou when Lou retired.

Coached a lot of future coaches, too. Only downside is that he went to OSU.

They should have won it in 1993, too.

Yeah that 93 team was loaded. Injury to Henderson just killed them. Could have easily had a championship in 75 and in 93 to his resume.

And 92. Terrible Ted Valentine absolutely screwed IU in that Final Four game.

I will never forget when I was a kid and Jerry Sloan's son Brian played for IU. All Bobby Knight had him do was run into people setting screens all day and the shit worked to perfection. R.I.P. El Generale!

He invented multiple screening away from the ball. Sort of.

Most legendary half-time speech.

Here's a link to the Score live stream today with Boers chiming in on Knight during Bernstein's show. It's around -6:22.

Never knew Larry Bird was recruited by Knight and was on the team for a month before deciding to drop out.

Yep he was there for a little while and left to go home. Then ended up at Indiana State.

The story always goes that Knight ran him off. But that is not entirely true. I am sure Knight had a role and we all know he was not bending for anyone. But Bird has said that coming from such a small town that Bloomington was just not his style and hated it. Bird was not the type of person that was going to leave because of a hard ass coach only. Also, Knight has said that it is one of his regrets that he wished he had done more to try and get him to stay at IU.

The late 70s IU teams would have won another title if they had Bird. Goodness he almost single handily carried Indiana State to a title.

1975-1976-1977 National Champions (with Larry Bird). A third-year Bird would have done it all in '77.

It's hard to see how that would not happen.

After leaving, Bird worked on a garbage truck. Just an amazing trajectory. Boston was down, too, when they got him.

There were two times I saw Coach Knight at IU. The first was at a speech he gave at Assembly Hall. The place was packed. I remember being in awe of the speech. I don't think I've ever heard a better speaker in person. I saw one video where he was said to be the best teacher at IU, and that was teaching fishing!

The second time was at a home football game against Iowa. I saw him outside the stadium. He looked like a big bear in the distance.

Too bad this happened outside of the B&B "real. Serious. Radio." era

Actually non-sarcastically wish it was at the peak, where Terry would say "right up their giggey" ::zoo noise::

"Here's a story you should like, Terry."
"Did Bob Knight die again?"
"You can't die again! Is that a project you're working on in your garage? Bringing Bob Knight back to life to make him die again?"
"Yeah, I mean, really, if you could do that, and you could choose someone to do it to, I think you'd have to choose that bastard. Every day, just, you're back, hello, and goodbye."
"The Sisyphean reanimation of Bob Knight. Anyway, it's not that, but it does involve some sort of torture. This is from NBC: Two former Indiana University basketball players have sued their alma mater alleging their team doctor repeatedly sexually assaulted them and their teammates and the school did nothing to stop him. Haris Mujezinovic and Charlie Miller, who played for the Hoosiers in the 1990s under legendary coach Bob Knight, said in a lawsuit filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court for Southern Indiana that the coaches and trainers were aware that Dr. Bradford Bomba Sr. was subjecting basketball players to unnecessary prostate examinations. Knight died last year at age...83."

[EIGHTY-THREE]

"It goes on. Mujezinovic and Miller said in their lawsuit that they “were routinely and repeatedly subjected to medically unnecessary, invasive, and abusive digital rectal examinations. And Digital Underground."
"Digital prostate exam, is that opposed to, what, an analog prostate exam?
"DAT'S EXACKLY RIGHT TERRY DEEZ NEW INTERNS TINK EVERYTHINGS DIGITAL, DEY DON'T REMEMBER WHEN YOU HAD TO DO PROSTATE EXAMS WIT A RAZOR BLADE AND SPLICING TAPE. ugh. Dumbass."
"What'd you say his name was?"
"Dr. Bradford...Bomba. [intern organ sound] Not Mo Bamba."
"Mo Bamba, sounds like they got too much Bomba. Hello."
"Well, apparently for Mujezinovic and Miller--Mujezinovic and Miller, dah dah-dah dah--they didn't get enough Bomba, because they are seeking unspecified damages. And desperately seeking Susan."
"They're also seeking Mo Bamba for some reason."
"Where does one find Mo Bamba?"
"Not in the league for much longer, I know that."
"It says When Mujezinovic’s teammates saw that he was assigned to Dr. Bomba, Sr., they warned Mujezinovic to prepare for...‘the finger.'"
"Well, that's just common courtesy, I mean, I've spent a lifetime preparing for the finger, although some fingers, you just can't prepare for...heeeey...but sometimes, the finger isn't prepared for you, and then I don't know what you do with that, or where any of this is going, to be honest. Hey, what we be doin?"
"We be streamin'! And preparing for the finger."
